This was in my mailbox the other day:
I Just Realized Something:
My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day.
He has his food prepared for him.
His meals are provided at no cost to him.
He visits the Dr. once a year for his checkup and again during the year, if any medical needs arise. For this he pays nothing, and nothing is required of him.
He lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than he needs, but he is not required to do any upkeep.
If he makes a mess, someone else cleans it up.
He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep.
He receives these accommodations absolutely free.
He is living like a king and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever.
All of his costs are picked up by others who earn a living.
I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me like a ton of bricks ~
MY dog is a CONGRESSMAN!!!

The big difference is your dog is loyal and recognizes that you are responsible for his good life. When you come home, he stops what he is doing to welcome you. When you are depressed or sick, he’ll hang around to make sure you are okay. Unless you are a major donor, you are not going to get that level of loyalty and interaction from a Congressman.

Your dog is big oil…or Boeing…or Haliburton…or the military industrial complex, or any of the thousands of companies that suck off the teat of the government…

Absolutely. Neither big government nor big business are our friend. They are like siamese twins bound by shared financial interests. Most members of congress see big business as their real constituents because the senators and reps want to be executives, board members, lobbyists, or consultants for those companies after they leave office. Most of them spend all their time in office scheming to capitalize on their position.

I’ve seen many versions of this before. It is not true. Members of Congress have insurance through the federal health insurance program. It is NOT free – although to be fair, it is better than many other programs. They do not get free meals or choices of places to sleep. No expenses whatsoever? Nonsense.
There are MANY things wrong with our current political system, arising principally from the incredible amounts of money spent on campaigns, much if not most of which can be spent by corporations without any accountability, thanks to the decisions of the Roberts Supreme Court.
Do you intend to suggest by this post that our local congressman behaves this way?
