EPISD used to make the video of their special board of trustees meetings available on their web site.
The last one they published was for the March 15, 2016 meeting, almost a year ago.
Since then the the board has held twelve special meetings. None of those videos are available on their website.
The January 17, 2017 special meeting included an agenda item that allowed them to take action on the new central office.
It seems that they are using special meetings to handle issues that they don’t want us to know much about.

Brutus, EPISD is doing everything behind closed doors now. They became millionaires with our hard-earned tax payer money and have an arrogant crook up at the top. The January 17, 2017 meeting not only gave the superintendent a raise, but also Trustees discussed the matter behind closed doors, eventually returning to a public meeting. They voted 6-0 to allow the superintendent to negotiate and present a contract to the board for approval. Unanimous vote for the Superintendent to negotiate with our money.
Notice how the EPISD also removed the links to the Superintendent’s contract from its website, but lets break it down. Base salary of $348,800.00; vacation days that can be cashed in at a value of $54,000.00; Extra annuities of $25,000 per year; since he believes the employer’s health insurance to be garbage he gets a family premium paid $2,500.00 a month ($30,000.00 per year); monthly car stipend of $1,500.00 ($18,000.00 per year)
Total compensation $475,000 plus all expenses reimbursed for district “business.”

You forgot the million dollar term life insurance policy and the 60^ of base pay disability policy. The latter should be quite expensive. Also, the 15 extra vacation days and the lump sum 20 extra days of leave are both illegal and against Constitutional law.

Can you imagine having a business and giving an employee extra vacation days and allowing him to take the days worth $1500 of your money to go give talks and work as a consultant for his own profit? I think we have switched Businesses models! This is illegal regardless of what any district lawyer says.

Does IT (web site management) report to Ms. Fuzzy Math? It did at the city. That might explain the lack of transparency on the site.

Actually, a lot has changed this year. In the past, we took everything for our web sites to Technology. Now, if it’s for the employee internal portal, we take it to Technology. If it’s for the public site, we now take it to Public Relations. It’s been frustrating because they’ve made changes to how our stuff looks and we can’t even direct people where to find it. Or, it’s there one day, gone the next, then back again. Technology took care of us! At least when they were in charge, if we had a change it would be done relatively quickly, or they would tell us about delays. PR just nods and gets around to it whenever. So whatever you are looking for may be there, just somewhere unexpected because those people are LOST!
As for the move, internally we keep hearing about the blue flame and the EPCC buildings. This is another frustrating topic because we would all like to know where we are going, and when so that we can plan accordingly.

That might also explain why the Chief Technology officer position has not been posted on the EPISD site. There have been several interviews, but no takers on the position. Ms. Fuzzy Math probably trying to recruit from her past.

The new EPISD central office will be the Chase building. The Chase building was one of Bill Sanders’ Borderplex community trust REIT acquisitions. The Chase bank is moving to the Mills Building. Funny world, ain’t it?

If you’re right, EPISD will be getting into the commercial real estate business and will become a landlord because otherwise they or the seller will have to pay to relocate all the other tenants in that building. That doesn’t make sense to me, but I’m sure Cabrera would like to turn the El Paso Club into an executive dining room. He refers to his senior staff as his “cabinet” so maybe he feels the need for more Washington-like amenities and even more perks like valet parking.

On the other hand, another building he has his eye on is the Stanton Professional Building at 1100 Stanton Street. Not big enough for Central Office and not enough parking but hey why not.
