City council–pay attention!

Will city council pay attention?

The slide below is from a recent budget presentation made to city council:

The very next slide in the presentation recaps what the public told them our priorities ought to be:

City staff seems to think that streets are at the bottom of the list of quality of place/life issues.

We think that they should be number one.

Our desire for improvements in our parks does not even make their list.

They know what we want.  Will they do it?

We deserve better

  1. That right there simply serves to point out the glaring disconnect between the citizens of El Paso, and those elected to represent the citizens. It is simply unfathomable to try to figure out why they think that they can continue to ignore us so blatantly, and so often. Maybe because this has been the status quo since forever?

There is a donor agenda that is different. Our leaders will dismiss the survey as too small to be reflective of the “community”. Only 1200 or so responded. That said, the donor pool the directs the tax and spend agenda is much, much smaller. If you go back to the original QofL meetings, folks were pretty vocal about streets then too. Still watching the ones in my neighborhood crumble away. Worse, the one street that was redone near my neighborhood is cracking down the middle after only four years of use. Says a lot about our skill in street resurfacing.

My quality of life will only be enhanced when I do not have to drive on streets that resemble the surface of the moon – and given the poor structure of public transportation I will be driving! AND it will be further enhanced if street work does not take two or three years! These are not sexy projects and I fear that this council will NEVER understand. A business leader coming here to check things out who drives down any street in Kern Place will probably book the next flight out.

Just saying but there appears to be daily major car crashes where there are nice roads like the loop…

The politicians of El Taxo have NO interest in what is best for the PEOPLE. What WE want, need. THEY represent only themselves and whatever THEY can get, TAKE from US.
