We have been searching to see if there is a way to negate the quality of life bond election.
Here it is:
CHAPTER 1252. REVOCATION OF AUTHORITY TO ISSUE BONDS
Sec. 1252.001. ELECTION TO REVOKE AUTHORITY. The commissioners court of a county or the governing body of a municipality may order an election to determine whether to revoke the authority to issue bonds that:
(1) compose all or part of an issue authorized by an earlier election; and
(2) have not as of the date of the order been sold or delivered.
Added by Acts 1999, 76th Leg., ch. 227, Sec. 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1999.
Sec. 1252.002. ELECTION PROCEDURE. (a) An election to revoke bonds under this chapter shall be held in the same manner as the election originally authorizing the bonds.
(b) In an election held under Subsection (a), the ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the proposition: “The revocation of bonds.”
(c) If a revocation election covers bonds of more than one voted issue, there shall be a separate proposition for each voted issue.

Did we have a QOL bond election? Who gave the city and county authority to issue QOL or the authority to isse certificates of obligation (indebtedness)?

El Pasoans are not going to understand that Voting FOR the “Revocation of Bonds” means NO BONDS.
And Voting AGAINST it, means that the Bonds are still in place.
This was similar to the original voting question which was somewhat ambiguous also.
At the time, El Paso Times had a comment section and most replied that they did not know that voting FOR something was AGAINST it, etc., or Voting NO, was FOR it.
The ballot was worded in a wrong way.

Oh, please. It is not that complicated. We got sold a bill of goods in 2012, and we’ll never finish paying that bill. Of course if this is doable, it needs doing. Get a petition going to revoke what’s left of that entire fiasco, and worry about the wording later!

The only “Quality of Life” in El Taxo is for the politicians, Public Officials. I don’t see any way that these people would ever allow US to have an election, VOTE to take POWER from THEM. .THEY would never give up the POWER to take from US. We continually see that THEY come up with more and more excuses to take from US. Tax increases, fees, more tax increases, fabricated, inflated Property “Values” to do it all.. Tax, waste, spend, tax some more. Lie, deny, deceive. THEY have put US BILLIONS$$$ in debt and no way to pay any f it, except .to constantly INCREASE TAXES..

Since Mr. Gonzalez got a nice $15K+ raise and the mayor’s numbers for fire, police, etc. don’t come near the new city budget it would be great if the Times and the local blogs could publish how much of our tax money goes to salaries and benefits for city employees at the supervisor and above levels.

Gonzalez should ask him self: “How close is his exorbitant pay INCREASE to the ANNUAL salaries of the average El Pasoan?” HE don’t even care. Just like EPISD’s Cabrera, other leeches, carpet baggers, brought into the “little country town” of El Taxo by the local politicos. Just here to “Fleece US peons” and leave with a bag of OUR money.

So I spose we can assume that Tommy Gonzalez has been in the Military, Afghanistan, Syria, Special Operations, ANY WHERE? Maybe a Police Officer, kicking in doors, chasing criminals, getting shot at, killed doing the JOB? Maybe he builds rock walls for 12 hours a day, 5$ bucks an hour? Nope, just a “pencil pusher”, living off people who actually do WORK for a living, that next pay check. People who actually do earn the money they make and deserve more. But then there’s the “Pencil Pushers” and the politicians who hire THEM, pay them with OUR money. A society of leeches.

If we can get rid of this torment created by the faceless and nameless then by all means let us do it. Quality of life here in El Paso was space, peace, all the small businesses. I know we can’t go back, but what is being done to people who have lived here their entire lives is wrong. We all have been too easily defeated. We need to fight. Homeowners pay 70% of these taxes, while the corporations pay 30%. The essential services like police do not have the resources they need. Crime is not recorded because the city tries to sell the lie that El Paso is the safest city. The people here are the greatest resource the area has. The people need to use the power nature gave them.

This 70 / 30 is not new. As far back as I can remember, mayors and city council have been trying to attract more businesses to El Paso so that ratio could be reversed. The problem is that we’ve always been behind the eight ball. We should have been thinking about improving our city way back in the 60s and 70s when cities like Phoenix were focused on QOL. They were signing up big businesses that paid big taxes while we were busy being smug about no tax increases. Now we’re paying the price.

In the the late 90’s homeowners only supported 45% of the city’s tax base.
In 2006 when they wanted to form the TIRZ and approve the Downtown plan, single family homeowners were supporting 57% of the tax base
.
Both Beto and Steve Ortega insisted the plan would shift the burden to commercial.
Before this last tax increase the single-family home owner was supporting 70% of the city’s tax.
Now it is more, exactly how much I do not know at the moment.
What I do know is the City’s “Economic Development” plan is an abysmal failure.
This Mayor and City Council are truly financially illiterate and clueless..
The Mayor and Council that put the City on this path i.e Beto and Steve Ortega are beyond financially illiterate and clueless.
We need new governance and a new plan that is NOT driven or influenced by the Borderplex alliance and the ultimate financial idiot Wilson

EPISD bond is much bigger concern. More money and more likely abuse of funds.

Chico, think the almost BILLION$$$ in Bonds for EPISD is just a slush fund for Cabrera, the School Board. Just in case THEY want to buy something, anything. Lunch, dinner, plane tickets, vacations, golf resorts, new cars, etc,etc.
