There has been some criticism of the University of Texas board of regents’ selection for the presidency of UTEP, evidently coming from members of some gay communities.
I don’t know what discretion the president of UTEP will have over sexual preference issues at the school.
I can only imagine that at the first sign of perceived discrimination she will be faced with a lawsuit.

Brutus, l’m glad you brought up this topic. As a UTEPer, it was just yesterday that my professor for my class on ‘Multi gendered, binary indigenous, pre historic ecological pagan tribal dances in Antarctica’ Studies told me they will probably quit in protest. Now, how am l suppose to receive my doctorate? l mean l’m already half way done with my 2800 word thesis on ‘Clouds are racist because they’re white.’ Oh well, l guess l don’t need a good education after all.

She controls hiring and firing. She controls who or who does not get tenure. If she a biased towards or against any group, it can show up there. She sets the tone for the entire University, just as a CEO sets the tone for a company. Can you say “Hobby Lobby” or “Chik-Fil-A?”

She “can” affect something so she shouldn’t be able to do anything. The only “good” person for the job would be someone who is 100% your choice.
That’s not really the way society works. The world doesn’t revolve around any one person or group’s feelings.
I will, however, look forward to your support for the people that Medicare for All decides isn’t worth treating because it would be too costly. Since you seem to be for every group getting their way in every situation…

My biggest concern is that this turns into just another example of no one in El Paso being considered up to the job! Whenever an important position opens in this town, a new hire is brought in from out of town, and that adds to the cost, the frustration and unhappiness of existing staff, and leaves us all with that general feeling that we are inadequate. This would have been a perfect time for someone to speak up and demand a promotion from within.

It is also a way to cloak the vetting process. As it turns out, she’s got a lot more skeletons in her closet than I’m willing to overlook when it comes to our next generation’s higher education.

Universities benefit from bringing leaders and thinkers from outside the community. This is a university, not city council. We want ideas from all over the world.
It’s common in university life that you never work at the university where you received your doctorate. If it’s a real university, UTEP should be no different.

The issue is hostility to LGBTQ issues, but more…no serious university experience unless you consider the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with about 2500 students to be the equal of UTEP…serious ethics charges filed against her…efforts while she was in charge of family and children affairs dept in New Mexico to hide the files about accusations of sexual misconduct with a minor, a client, by her lawyer husband and then lying about it…no knowledge of the border…does not speak Spanish…oh yes, a “stellar” choice to replace Dr. Natalicio. She’s being supported by Paul Foster and has been, along with Woody Hunt, since her congressional campaigns. They must know something that the rest of us don’t.

Honestly, I think she is a great choice. A university can actually be an economic engine in a community when it has a leader who isn’t ivory towered out and understands how to forge education-industry partnerships. And the fact that she isn’t Mexico-centric is a good thing. We need leaders who can get EP recognized somewhere beyond Chihuahua. It would be great to see UTEP become more than the ultimate safety school.

So now anyone who is gay or professes any type of alternate gender role gets to shut down an entire university? There should be no taxpayer dollars involved in any university that is so precariously operated. This would make UTEP the opposite of a stable, “diverse” institution of learning.
If “diversity” means you have to share a common viewpoint I see no reason to participate. They can tell people what to think at the same time they release the approved food list.

Unfortunately in these interviews, the media never provides the background of the individual’s interviewed in these very vocal protests, who employ tactics right out of Saul Alinsky’s book “Rules for Radicals.” This crap goes on in El Paso all the time.
One key rule is make sure the TV media is there, and be very vocal and outspoken, in order to give the impression you have greater numbers and influence than you actually have.
Simple media questions like, are you from El Paso or Juarez? After all doesn’t UTEP allow Juarez students to pay in-state tuition, rather than out-of-state tuition? Are you an actual student attending UTEP? If you are an employee or professor at UTEP what subject do you teach? Specifically, who are these actual protestors and specifically who and what do they represent?
Are this protestors trying to make UTEP a better educational institution, or a mediocre organization?

That was a hit piece written by a professor with a liberal agenda. And, yes, Forbes does cheapen its brand that way. She went through a full Senate confirmation with minimal Democrat questioning or criticism, and John Thune wanted to see her named the next Secretary of Defense. You would think that if the Forbes article were accurate that the Dems would have had a field day with the confirmation hearings. Yet they didn’t. We need more folks with this quality of experience and network. The type of vision she brings could help UTEP and the overall economic prospects for this region because a strong university attracts industrial investment.

Anonymous: In regard to the website you referenced, it would reasonably seem as part of the duties of the search organization or internal committee the Board of Regents employed, any negative problems about Wilson would have been brought forward as part of the search process.
But anyone concerned about the problems surfaced in that one article, can go up to the below Regent’s website https://www.utsystem.edu/offices/board-regents
And they can simply address this issue directly to Regents as a ‘body corporate.’ Simply prepare a letter with the article, and would recommend sending it either Registered or Certified USPS mail with return receipt. Copies of that letter could also be sent to the local media outlets, plus to Congress Woman Escobar, and Texas State Senator Rodriguez and Texas Representative Moody.
If there is a valid problem, it would reasonably appear that issue can be addressed in Wilson’s employment contract.

Wilson was not selected by the University of Texas Board of Regents. She was selected by a search committee. The Board will now vote on her.
