The EPISD board of trustees is having a board workshop on Monday, March 25, 2019.
The purpose of the workshop?
(To discuss Board Policy ELA [Local] which would allow the District to authorize partnerships with eligible entities/organizations to provide innovative schooling options for students)
Here is their proposed definition of a partnership:
A PARTNERSHIP MEANS A DISTRICT-AUTHORIZED CAMPUS CHARTER ESTABLISHED IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATE LAW
IN WHICH THE BOARD CONTRACTS TO OPERATE A DISTRICT CAMPUS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH AN OTHER ELIGIBLE ENTITY AS
DEFINED BY LAW.
They do propose to limit who they can partner up with:
THE DISTRICT SHALL PARTNER WITH NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, GOVERNMENTAL ENTITIES, AND INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION. THE DISTRICT SHALL NOT CONSIDER APPLICATIONS FROM CHARTER SCHOOLS.
This is a game changer.
We deserve better
Brutus
In other words, they have no idea wtf they’re doing but they don’t want competition either. Way to go EPISD! THAT’S really putting the students first.

Apparently Juan Cabrera NEVER had the education, training, INTELLIGENCE to run the schools. And now he’s up to about half-MILLION$$$$ pay, benefits , plus all the MILLIONS$$$ in taxpayer money he waste, just blows-off. So now he, they want to go out, hire all these “friends, family” contractors to run the school district for him. So he just continues to tax, waste, spend, tax some more. And WE have to pay and pay for his, all the minions, ineptness, corruption.

Just thought. Do not most of the District’s monies go to friends, family and acquaintances in the form of contracts?

Remember Dee Margo pushed Cabrera. He’s responsible for this mess.

Charter schools were always part of EPISD’s plan. Now we’re seeing how they’re going to put them into play.

I believe under state law they must partner with a charter school if the opportunity is cost effective, no?

Sort of. The State tells them who to partner with or they don’t qualify for the money (carrot) they dangle in front of them.

Please elaborate on why this is a game changer and what you anticipate will be the outcome.

When the EPISD accepted the State’s charter partner and gave us a 5 million dollar grant they left 5 million more on the table. This can be obtained with actions by the board. Does anyone else think it is funny that the State gets to pick the people the EPISD gets to partner with? Feds give State money for Grants (Education Reform) State picks partners all involved with Charter schools (Education Reform) EPISD takes 5 million dollars for Transformation Zone and gives away power to manage. (Education Reform)
And if anyone thinks that the Superintendent listens to anyone you are mistaken, he has 2 million dollars worth of contracts in his pocket that the BOT’s have given him. Still has 4 years and maybe 5.

Now we hear that board member Lowree may not be the educator she claims to have been. Records of her teaching or paraprofessional certification cannot be verified of the degree she claims to have earned from UTEP.

That was the only record of anyone by the name of Loweree that SBEC has.

Maybe there’s confusion over her name. She can clear it up if she wants to

Is Loweree her maiden name? SBEC only goes off maiden names.

These are the only local marriage records so I think Loweree may be her maiden name. Checked under both Martinez and Duenas, no hits.
