Item 6.2 on the Tuesday, July 23, 2019 city council agenda contemplates the award of a bid for insurance brokerage services.
The bid tabulation above evaluated two bidders. One scored 90 points out of a possible 100 (including the lowest cost) while the other scored 80.33 points.
They want to award the bid to the more expensive bidder who also scored lower.

A person would certainly expect the Mayor, who used to be a honcho in the local insurance industry, to know everyone in the local insurance industry. Do you suppose the Representatives will ever grow a spine and stand up to the Mayor?

USI did not score as well and they also cost more, but they do get 5 points for being a local business. I believe USI Southwest is out of Houston, but they probably have a local agent. That agent might well be a friend of our mayor. If you believe Dee Margo would put the interests of himself and a group of local oligarchs ahead of the interests of the citizens of El Paso, then there is reason to question this decision. I hope city counsel does their job and asked questions or simply says no, but then again they are probably just trying to get into the elite group and will go along with Margo – hoping one day to share in the joys of privilege at others’ expense.
Margo probably believes that us peons should just be happy with the promise of water parks and leave the business of city administration to the experts. This peon thinks he is full of crap.

They need to copy the EPISD and use “Buy Boards” They approve Multiple vendors for a gross amount, many times in the millions and the board approved certain vendors. The district can then use any of the selected vendors for any of the items for any amount and do not have to go back to the board for approval. And then if they give a multiyear contract, the next year the Superintendent has the authority to extend the contract if the dollar amount does not change. This has been used so much that the main job of the Board of Trustees is attending graduation exercises. 🙂

Have you all given up speaking up to the Mayor and Council yourselves during Call to the Public at noon on council meeting days? The news media is there as well as members of the public, some of whom are not oligarchs or employees of the City. If we give up, why keep on living here?

Anyone who has a job more than a block away from Council can hardly speak to Mayor and Council given that the meetings take place on a workday.
