Maximum tax increase from the city

In Sleight of hand we discussed the fact that city council voted to set next year’s tax rate at 88 cents per hundred dollars of valuation.

The next day they published in the Times a different rate of 90.73 cents which is the maximum allowable without triggering our opportunity to call a roll back election.

Today’s (Tuesday, August 6, 2019) city council agenda includes the first of two required public hearings before raising the tax rate.

How much are they asking for?

If you guessed 90.73 cents you are correct.

We deserve better

Once again, the masked stranger gets it wrong. Political party affiliation has not meant much at this local level as long as I have lived here! It makes no difference whether our local officials are one party or the other. They are all bought and paid for by rich interests whose greed drives everything around here.

John is 100% right on that. Check donor disclosures before you vote, because that will tell you more about their elected behavior than campaign lit.

Brutus, could you kindly share a link or a
Screenshot of the EP Times citation of the 90.73 figure? Could you provide the date and precise page number of the paper. Thanks!

I’m sorry but that newspaper has been thrown away.

I do know that it was published on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 in the print version of the Times.

City council, the city manager, and all involved were blatantly dishonest. The misinformation and official vote in the council meeting was intentionally deceptive and misleading.
