The “impeachment” proceedings against Trump. I hope every Democrat get’s what they want and in the future people will be required to prove their innocence instead of enjoying the presumption of innocence we used to have in this country.
What a disgrace. And Escobar is in town bragging.
Soon they will have abolished actual police and replaced them with political operatives. In Soviet Russia they were called apparatchiks.
I guess one of the joys of being retired is that you can stay at home and watch all the Fox News and listen to all the Rush Limbaugh you want to while your brain slowly turns to mush waiting for the cold hand of death come and take you away to Ronald Reagan heaven where Ayn Rand will meet you at the pearly gates and tell you what a good and faithful servant you have been.
Yesterday on the news I heard that the Dems changed their talking points from quid pro quo to bribery because they ran a focus group (that’s when you put a group of average Americans in a room and discuss concepts with them to see what resonates), and apparently bribery works better with them then quid pro quo. President Trump is far from perfect, but when a party whose VP bragged about giving the Ukraine six hours to fire a prosecutor that was investigating a company paying his son $50k a month or he would pull US loan guarantees is using a focus group to pinpoint what impeachment charges will play best with voters, a sane person starts to wonder where the real abuse of power lies. And for those of you who don’t do research, the released transcript said that the favor was not getting dirt on the Bidens, but instead investigating whether the firing of the prosecutor was appropriate. I’ve seen the Biden video where he brags about it and that was an appropriate request. Running for President shouldn’t give career politicians a pass on their earlier line the pockets of friends and family activities. The real reason for the rush to impeach (besides knocking out a guy who will likely win a second term) is half of Congress is guilty of this kind of friends and family largess and if Joe Biden gets caught at it, they could be next. The swamp is draining way too slowly. Our biggest problem isn’t Trump, it’s smooth talking politicians that use their positions to line their (and their families’ and big donors’) pockets. We see it on a small scale here in EP, but the higher you go in politics, the worse it gets.

That makes perfect sense. Few Americans know English grammar, much less Latin phrases like quid pro quo. You have to talk to the public at large using words they understand from watching crime and courtroom shows on TV.
The Democrats are only doing research because they have a buffet of potential charges to choose from thanks to Trump’s arrogance, stupidity, and disregard for ethics or the law.
Readers not familiar with Russian words like apparatchiks can dial up the Oval Office and ask Trump to explain them. If he is not available, try Mitch McConnell or Mike Flynn. You’ll have trouble reaching Paul Manafort. As for “disgraceful,” that describes the President’s behavior on a daily basis. Trump just entertained Turkey’s Erdogan at the White House. That’s the same Erdogan who is responsible for the slaughter of thousands of Kurds in Syria. That’s the same Erdogan whose bodyguards attacked a crowd of peaceful protesters in Washington, D.C. a couple of years ago while Erdogan stood by watching and issuing orders.
Funny how easy it was to impeach Bill Clinton for a sex act, but now it is not fair to do the same to a son of a bitch who has done so much worse. Hypocrisy much?
Agree re: Clinton. It cost the GOP loss of the house, too, because Americans saw it for what it was – an attempt to overturn an election. The same is happening now.
Comrade Dungan, you forgot to mention Andrew Johnson … the Republicans tried to impeach him for firing a cabinet secretary. Trump does that every week. More Republican hypocrisy.
And one other disturbing new trend. Our tax and spend Mayor has recently changed his talking points about an arena, trying to say that UTEP will need it while they renovate the Don Haskins center. State funded university don’t need sports facility assists from local taxpayers but I guess the new talking point resonates with UTEP students who could vote and helps make argument for sticking with a Durandigo location. Wonder if we’ve paid for a focus group there as well.

John, the effect Trump’s policies have had on the stock market have doubled my retirement savings which previously had been hit hard by various crashes and policies that stagnated growth. And since the taxpayers aren’t giving me a pension, that’s a big deal.

As far as I know, nobody receives a pension “given” to them by the tax payers, or anybody else! Government employees all have paid into their own pensions, and the employer(s) (City, State, or Federal) have matched the contributions, just like what happens in the private sector, where pensions are tied into employment.
In the private sector we get matching contributions into 401ks—pensions died for most private sector employees in the 80s. Contributions into to government pensions don’t begin to cover their costs, particularly given the short vesting periods. Our former city manager vested in 10 years and is getting retirement benefits from EP.
Perhaps a little cross training is in order. I know average high school graduates that are making high 5-figure to low 6-figure income working as car salesmen. Beyond that are all the trades which are in high demand and many reach into the 6-figure income.
Our country is in trouble. The democrats “know” the President broke the law. The republicans “know” the President no only did nothing wrong but is actually making American Great again. The democrats “know” that Obama was the greatest President of all time. The republicans “know” that Obama was the biggest joke of a president of all time and almost completely destroyed this country. The democrats “know” that climate change is gong to end the world. The republicans “know” that climate change is a huge hoax. Here’s the problem. Neither side is going to budge. Both sides are willing to destroy this country for their own personal gain. The answer. We need another third party (libertarian or tea party) to come in and officiate this mess because the rules keep changing and we need someone to put these greedy, self-minded, deep state politicians in their place. Drain the swamp.
Well spoken and I have been saying as much. The two party system cannot contain the diversity of the USA anymore. Plus, like in El Paso politics, they are bought and paid for by corporate interests which is why, no matter who you elect, nothing changes.
