City council rejected an ordinance that would have required three city council members to agree to put an item on their agenda.
No one would say where this came from but it is a bad idea.
Any city council member should be able to place an item on the agenda.

It’s a trend in government to disable populist levers of influence, like a single CC member placing an agenda item. Why do you think the MSM spills so much ink on debunking alternative media? “What, you want to believe them and not us?” But we all know who owns them.
Imagine a CC member who is not on the Usual Suspects payroll posting an item discussing how the city might default on the stadium bonds because there is no HOT revenue to cover the debt service. Just the fact that there was such a public discussion would ripple thru the investor community and jeopardize not only the price of the bonds, but the market for any future city debt issue.
Which would be a good thing, IMO. If the city were denied access to the credit markets, we would have to live within our means instead of rolling along on our current spending spree. Other than a local movement to pack CC with reps dedicated to transparency and fiscal responsibility, I don’t see any other way out of our dilemma.
Then again, I could be dead this month.

I kind of like the idea of having more than 3 required to get an idea on the city council agenda. But the city can put on an agenda item without going through city council so what makes the difference? Taxpayers will always be on the low end of the totem pole where your representative can say and do whatever he wants since most are elected by less than 10 percent of voters.

Why should any representative be required to obtain consent from two other representatives to put items on the city council’s agenda? This seriously waters down the representation of any given district while supporting the worst of all things: politics.
The only reason I can think of for them to propose such an idea is the suppression of information.
