This is what they say:
While I respect Mr. Moore personally I did not like his editorial policy while he was with The El Paso Times. In my opinion he was an enabler of the nonsense that we saw and continue to see coming out of city hall. It seemed to me that taxpayer money did not matter to him.
He sees five “information needs in coming months”:
- We are already being adequately told about how to protect the health of our families
- Solutions-focused information–I don’t know how he could possibly help
- Ensuring that the needs of our most vulnerable populations are being met–beyond his control
- Accountability reporting–that would be nice
- Election coverage–facts, or opinion?
I hope that ElPasoMatters survives.
I won’t be giving them any money unless I see them as part of a solution instead of part of a problem.

Why do journalists feel like they offer more to society than everyone else?
I have never seen a mechanic, carpenter or construction worker ask the general population for donations. “Journalism” has become so subjective and political it isn’t reporting anymore, but rather opinion couched as reporting.
Mr. Moore was intellectually dishonest at the Times and I see no reason why he would suddenly be objective and honest now. He shouldn’t expect the public to support him unless he creates something the public wants and is willing to pay for.

Begging is the opposite of capitalism.
What service do those begging offer in consideration for compensation, and how does that service benefit the buyer?
In this case he seeks donations, which isn’t a transaction in any retail sense.
If you hate capitalists then don’t live in a capitalist society. I hear Cuba and Venezuela are nice this time of year, perhaps their economic models are more to your liking?

While you’re raving about capitalism and calling some people beggars you might want to stop long enough to read some real news. The airline industry begged for a $50 billion taxpayer bailout and they want grants, not loans. The line of capitalist corporations asking for free money is long. Some corporations don’t even have to ask. The City of El Paso has been begging Great Wolf Lodge to take tens of millions of dollars of taxpayer money and land.

I’m with you on this, Brutus. If he’d done that at the Times, there would be value I’m doing this. But, given his past track record, that is unlikely. Perhaps he should just get Foster, Hunt and Margo to put him on retainer.

Unfortunately it’s a very overrated profession! The purchasing public has rendered its economic judgment factually by the decline of so many print publications.
This morning was watching a few TV news’ shows, and was amazed just how ‘full of shit’ many of these so called news analysts actually are. Simply turned the TV off and went on to other meaningful life activities.
