Can u imagine telling your bosses they are “crazies” All you have to do is apologize and give them a second opinion: “you’re nuts”. Mr Robinson responded in a normal way and was insulted and for good reason. But this a reflection of how JW thinks. Ms Lilly responses were also interesting maybe adding a degree of validity to JW’s rant since she displayed a degree of Euphoria, e.g future is Rosy (a Billion dollar Debt I guess) and a recent memory deficit, “I’ve forgotten it”. It seems that between C N and J W all who disagree with their plans are crazies. Therefore I beseech you to think of what they consider best for your city; don’t worry about the downtown traffic, the small stadium, the homeless and losing baseball team, the Tax increases. Get Sane
There are some interesting similiarities between those who work in or serve in local El Paso government and those who work and serve in our Federal government. Wilson, Niland, Cook, etc., clearly have an attitude of superiority and a sense that they, as members of government, are of a privileged class and need not be bothered by the concerns or opinions of ordinary citizens.
This sense of self-importance is largely due to the fact that they have come to see themselves as friends of the wealthy and powerful individuals who comprise local special interest groups. And the more attention our city officials receive from these individuals and groups, the more they disregard (and have disdain for) their other constituents, particularly those who have a different opinion.
Niland took office with an arrogant attitude because her campaign was bankrolled largely by a local PAC, developers, etc. She sees herself as ordained by the local gods. Either those who represent us live in a reality distortion zone where they fail to see they are being used; or more likely they are happy to readily cast their lots — and their votes — with the wealthy to satisfy their own personal wants and needs. The latter seems to be the case. The unfortunate thing about the recent passing of the local propositions is that the Wilsons and Nilands of the world will likely interpret those votes as not only support for those propositions, but also as an endorsement of their own autocratic, authoritarian style of decisionmaking.
They should be reminded that Karl Rove & Friends just spent more than $400 million trying to buy national offices only to be met with massive resistance from voters fed up with those trying to use money to diminish the importance of the individual voter. Maybe it’s time that local El Paso voters took a similar stand against the monied interests attempting to buy and influence local politicians and drive unilateral decisions. Enough already!
