Watching the Tuesday, June 18, 2013 city council meeting I finally made up my mind about the soon to be former mayor.
I have never been able to figure out why he acts the way he does. I saw with my own eyes why.
He doesn’t have a clue!
The mayor chose to wrap up the extended discussion about the proposed additions to the ball park. In his comments he pointed out that since the item was an amendment to an ordinance, the incoming council would have an opportunity to vote on the issue at the second reading of the ordinance next week.
The city attorney had to interrupt the mayor and tell him that he was wrong and that council could finalize the action in the meeting they were in. He thought that his council’s vote was not final.
I wonder how many other things that have happened he has misunderstood.
He served 6 years as a city representative followed by 8 years as mayor and still does not understand what they are doing.
We deserve better
Brutus
I would suspect that Mayor Cook was probably correct in his judgement of the matter. This is the same City lawyer that Joyce Wilson used to plan a “legal” backdoor deal on the ballpark, the same lawyer that argued that the voters had “approved” the demoliton of city hall in Austin when they approved the bonds in November’s election, the same lawyer who is suing the Attorney General so the city doesn’t release the emails…etc. In this case the same attorney who is the puppet of Joyce Wilson and the cabal who have managed to push thru everything related to the ball park deal and now who in their final moments insert the mortal “dagger” putting the extra money into the deal. They will do anything and argue “it’s perfectly legal” in order to get their way!!!

It’s interesting that there appears to have been no city council discussion or news media reports about the fact that part of the extra money supposedly now being contributed by Mountainstar is tied to ticket sales and parking which are contingent on attendance. Those revenues are not guaranteed, but we’re committed to spend them. That falls into the category of counting chickens before they hatch and those revenues are even more speculative than the anticipated hotel tax income.
It was absurd for Niland to suggest that Mountainstar’s principals needed the city to borrow that money enabling Mountainstar to obtain a lower interest rate than they could have obtained independently. Either of the Mountainstar principals could have written a check for $12 mil.

“Clueless in El Paso” – Aren’t you being a bit redundant? Anyway, you have to hand it to Mayor Cookie da Shnookie for being consistently clueless. Since l’m one of the few 915ers that possesses a memory span of beyond 45 minutes, this reminds me when mayoral-hopeful Cookie was doing a radio interview. He spent about an hour (6:07-7:00am) on an AM radio show and NEVER did mention what he was planning on accomplishing if he got elected. l also remember several years ago calling a different show and asking him if we can get these traffic lights synchronized. Do you know what his response was? ‘Well, it might help if you sometimes look ahead and drive slower or faster.’ OMG! l would be lying if l told you that l’m going to miss that intellectual featherweight.
