What’s going on?

We are now well into 3 months of the “new” City Council and Mayor. All we get, week after week are delays in the release of the Emails and Rep correspondence the rightly belongs to us and by law should have been released months…. years ago. The City attorney whose salary we pay comes up with new harebrained Ideas to delay their release in the meantime, the outside counsel she hired is charging up by the minute to delay the material that should be released by law and belongs to us. Am I getting this right?

Are she and the council hiding something? They play around with the tellin us that they want to clarify the law with ordinances without penalties….on and on. Give me a break.

If only we had a real newspaper. Where is the Buffalo News? The only place you can get information about their shenanigans is the blogs, this and the ones listed above (more blogs). Not only do they give citizens information but they  publish the critiques and and discuss sources. Please take a look and learn.  Find out what’s going on (in the city)

Stop the foolishness and release the material. If there is nothing to hide, let’s see it. After which they can play there little game of creating an ordinance with no teeth which in truth cannot be more exclusive than Texas State law. With the way they are fighting the “foia”, they may have to hire their own attorneys.

We need a real newspaper!

question here brownfield. since our bond rates on this stadium is gonna be 6 percent or more then how can the hot tax even pay for it ? 70 million at 6 percent is 4.2 mill the first year of interest. the hot tax was projected to only receive 1.5 to 1.7 million each year. at a 3 percent bond it works, but it doesnt at 6. granted, they will take sales tax and fees to pay for the rest of the principle and interest that are being used for other things right now. which really means taking money out of one pocket and putting it in another and replacing the money that is being used for other things from the general budget these past years with property tax money. which means property taxes will have to be raised for the 3 mill interest and principle shortfall. wouldnt the fact that property tax money really being used for the stadium be against the law now that the bond rate is so much higher. at 3 percent it work with the ammort. at 6 or higher it doesnt.

We need to put two giant billboard size, real-time counters in front of the stadium, juxtaposing the countdown to opening against the rising cost. I’m betting we will overrun both the original completion date as well as the most recent, increased budget. I might start running a book to take bets on both the completion date and the final cost.

Thanks for asking me a question Will. I prefer not to get too involved in the hopelessness of El Paso politics. I will say that I never thought the taxpayer wouldn’t get hit by the ballpark. I never thought Oscar Lesser would do anything for the little guy. One of my concerns about the future is when the ballpark is “deemed dated” will we be on the hook to revitalize it? I think its clear that all the new stadium construction across the country has ended the idea of a stadium lasting for a long period of time. The idea of a AAA ballpark lasting 30 years and still being a “hip place” to go seems insane. So, yes we will get hit personally on our property tax and it will be multiple times.

i thought strelz’z family should have let you carry on his blog since you were important to it for many years although i thought i had no right to ask it. you need to stay involved because many agree with your insights and perspective on things. i am a businessman and have owned a business for 30 years. i respect foster in the way he handled the refinery years back when i thought douglas and i believe sheldon try to screw him when they tried to take it public. if memory serves when the stock dropped foster basically bought them out and has been very successful, but this whole farah property and stadium deal has really made me lose respect for him. his donations are not donations anymore as far as im concerned. they are bartering decisions and he is getting the way better deal out of the bartering since he controlled the lame duck politicians on council. i believe the 75 percent who voted for leeser are also upset for the same reasons. he couldnt just let the taxpayer build him a stadium. it had to be where he demanded it to be. now he owns the construction company that is building it. that has made it look even worse. i guess when he married bibi he learned the mexican ways of doing things or maybe he was always like this. either way it is just not right or ethical.

Thank you William and Mock El Paso Times. I suffer from Asperger Syndrome which makes me painfully shy. The deaths of The Strelz and Jim Gamble really hurt me alot over the past year. They were 2 true friends who accepted me despite my social limitations. When I see something nice posted about me it really makes me feel great. So thanks a bunch.

Why thank you Mr. Brownfield. We are but a bunch of concerned, besieged residents of this city, exercising our 1st amendment rights and hoping to raise just a wee bit of consciousness about the abuses by our local government (a/k/a crazies). There are many, many more dedicated souls like you and the principals of this blog. One can only hope.
