Not fair

Our central appraisal district executive director is under attack from certain members of her board of directors.  She was quoted recently and showed that she does not understand her role.  What the city wants to do is not the solution.

The central appraisal district board of directors is composed of members that represent the various taxing entities in the county.

There is talk of the city wanting to perform an audit on the organization.  I don’t know if they have the legal authority to force the issue but I do know it would not be fair.

Because of the situation at the El Paso Independent School District we currently have a sitting EPISD board of managers member who is also the chief financial officer of the city.  Our chief financial officer has a conflict of interest here.

We have all experienced how arbitrary and unfair our city management is today.  As we have seen again recently they regularly overestimate revenues.  They continually try to mislead us with costs.  The city hall and ball debacles speak for themselves.

Allowing the city to perform the audit probably would not yield unbiased results.

We deserve better

  1. You are so right. One would think that there has to be a State Agency with oversight for something local like the CAD, so we don’t also fall into that ages old trap of hiring yet another outside firm for such an audit.

Conflicts? The president of the EPISD board of managers also sits on the CAD board.

Two of the EPISD Board of Managers (exactly half of the locally appointed members) are members of the CAD Board of Directors:

    Ed Archuleta Member
    Dee Margo Member

One of the reasons that EPISD is in the financial mess it is in is because of the incorrect valuation and REBATE to Western Refining to the tune of $4 million dollars.

Where is Idiot Shapliegh? Where is Dan “I can hardly move except to bitch at everything EPISD” Wever? Where is Kids First El Paso?
    Where is Sucio Byrd?

Not a peep. Not a single peep from any one of them.

Of course, it is not surprising that Margo is pro-Western Refining: Look at his largest campaign contributors:

EPISD top officials and the board are not interested in our kids’ education or safety. They overlook basic issues pertaining to missing speed limit signs to serve on other boards or support Woody and Paul. The EPISD and CAD need to be accountable to taxpayers. The CAD Board of Directors should review internal/external audited financial statements on a monthly basis. As taxpayers we expect CAD to be transparent. However, if there are no audited financial statements issued by an external auditor, we will never know who is responsible for the financial mess.
