Street conditions

Our local streets are falling apart.  I hope that our readers will use this post to nominate streets for repaving.

The city has published schedules that tell us what they plan to repave in 2014.  You can see one here.

According to the schedule there are no streets in district one that will be repaved this year.

I don’t live on Singing Hills but needed to travel on the street the other day.  It is in unbelievably poor condition.

The homes on the street are listed on the central appraisal district web site.  Their appraised value comes to a little over 20 million dollars.

Obviously nobody on the street is pulling strings to get preferential treatment.

To me one aspect of quality of life is the condition of our streets.

We deserve better

  1. This is a topic I have been complaining about for a couple of years! And, that very small list of very short distances (posted by the City) will not come close to fixing the problems that exist on our city streets! Meanwhile, with the recent rains, I’ll bet dollars to donuts that we will see a lot of new potholes all over the place. I do not normally drive on many of the streets I see listed as scheduled for repaving this year, so I don’t see how this will help me at all. Meanwhile, no matter what direction I take from my house, I promise you I will encounter bad street conditions in any direction, within a short distance. I live on the far east side of town. We do indeed deserve better.

Again our district rep Niland shows only one street. Our district streets are undrivable. What does it take to get our rep to take care of her district. She made sure her living area, the willows streets were repaved.

I guess you don’t need to pave trolley tracks. Maybe that is why Niland like trolleys:)

Cincinnati!!! Horrible! How the city manages to leave the street leading to Hoover House, the official residence of the UTEP president, in such terrible shape…I suppose it is a way of saying, we don’t care about anyone!!!

The folks on Singing Hills are probably fine with badly paved streets because it helps to keep the riffraff out and discourages cars from using Singing Hills as a shortcut.

The city is sparing no expense on the Country Club road work. I wonder if the new, antique looking lampposts were manufactured by the company owned by a certain city council rep’s in-laws.
