Pitiful police cars

Our mayor has told us that bringing new businesses and jobs to El Paso is one of his highest priorities.

Just as most of us would clean up our house before offering it for sale, the city could do some things to make us look better in the eyes of people visiting the community to see if they want to move here.

Our police cars look like we are either broke or don’t support public safety.  Many of the cars have paint peeling off of them.  They look like junk.

They certainly do not convey the image of a healthy city.

We deserve better

As long as the cars are mechanically good, run well, I dont have a problem with the “Look” of the cars.
I suppose they are all on a regular maintanence schedule.
The cars look scarry enough with the word “police” on the outside.
And I hope the police car paint jobs are not the deciding factor of anyone moving anywhere.
Ive never even considered the condition of police cars when deciding to move to another city.
And I hope BRAND NEW Police Cars are not a deciding factor of anyone to relocate.
El Paso does not have the water supplies to support any one else moving to this desert town. I dont know WHY El Paso would want or need any more population growth.
(Other than to raise the property taxes by artificially raising property values by out of towners bidding prices higher because they think $400,000. is normal for a 3 bedroom house, from wherever they came from.)
The Electric grid, water supplies, and sewer age, does not / will not handle heards of people moving to this area.

I sell police cars for a living. The worst car on my lot is nicer than the nicest EPPD car. They are a disgrace. What’s worse is that they are dangerous. It’s a miracle that they pass their safety inspections. Shameful.

  3. Well, for homeowner777, I don’t think we need to worry overmuch about any ‘heards’ of anything arriving anytime soon. As for running out of water, I remember hearing threats of that happening way back in the 60’s & 70’s. The prediction then was that we would run out of water before the end of the century. Guess what? We’re still here, bigger than ever, and Cd. Juarez is even bigger!
That said, I happen to agree with our gentle host. I have been harping on the sad condition of our local PD’s fleet for several years now. They are not only in bad condition, but they are indeed very old for any police department to have to be using daily. But, our PD is caught in a vicious circle, as are we all, in that no matter what condition your car is to begin with, daily driving on streets as crappy as ours can only wear them out and down that much faster.

John, When you say “gentle host,” are you really referring to Brutus? Have you really met that big fella pictured in the photo on the right? Would you want to be his newspaper delivery guy?

I’ve noticed EP police cars parked at Circle K and 7-Eleven overnight or for lengthy periods of time with not an officer in sight. Some had paint peeling, but they are never parked in way that suggests they simply broke down. What’s that all about?

The cars have cameras and typically film the peope who enter and exit the store. They are meant to discourage beer runs and other problems. I was told the stores request the cars.

I can only say that the city reflects the condition of the tax base. Most people are paying out their nose on taxes and many people lose their property because the taxes imposed on them are too high. Nice police cars are nice, but the condition of a lack of paint jobs on the cars directly reflects the rest of the home owners’ cars and the condition of their cars. Lower the tax rate, and that will bring in more businesses, and more revenue for nice, fancy policy cars could be brought in. This city corporation waste a lot of money, and even moreso, with the county corporation. Instead of the pricey studies, use that money for streets and light repair and updated police equipment, etc.
