We could improve our roads

Why are our neighborhood road in such disastrous shape?

Neglect is a big reason.  The city’s efforts have been toward “signature projects”.  In the meantime our roads are falling apart.

Standards

All of us have experienced the frustration of seeing a newly paved road be torn apart while some utility project scarred the new street.

We should be able to plan better.

We should start with a well built street.  Then we should try to avoid tearing it apart.  When it becomes necessary to dig a trench we should require the contractor to return the road back to it’s original condition.

Then we should hold the contractor responsible for the repairs over the life of the pavement.

Yes, this will cost more.  Then again maybe we will not be so quick to pave a road when utilities will need to dig them up later.  That will require planning and coordination.  The city will have to work with the utilities.  In those cases where it is necessary to tear up the road we have to hold contractors responsible instead of letting them save money with shoddy work.

We deserve better

  1. My problem is not that they tear up existing roads. It is that they neglect existing roads for years, way beyond the point where the street needs to be repaved due to cracks and potholes patches. Drive down just about any of our major streets, and feel the punishment your car is taking from uneven pavement, from manhole covers that are loose or too deep. How about driving just at dusk, in a light rain? I cannot even seen the while lines anymore! For that matter, when was the last time anyone saw a street sweeper go down your street? Anybody?

Good roads are little benefit to the people funding CC. So roads get little attention, like trolleys get, instead. Has anyone seen crews working on Country Club this summer?

John, you can always ride your bicycle, enjoy the bus ride with just you and a driver or walk to the trolley for a short trip.

I agree with Brutus, you have to hold the contractors and the Utilities accountable for the simple and cheap patchwork that they do. I have brought up this issue with 2 city reps but to no avail.

Streets are not maintained properly and then the shoddy patches that are allowed creates driving problems for everyone.

It drives me crazy over on the far East side. Every time a new store/restaurant/gas station is built, they rip up the street and never return it to it’s prior condition.

My problem is we, again, are being scammed. The first priority of government was to fix roads and bridges and ensure the safety of those living there with law enforcement and fire fighters, etc. The scam is bonding. The city deceives people into thinking the 3/4 billion in bonds will fix all of woes, including roads and bridges. Ah, where did that money go. Oh…maybe the Chihuahuas know, or the expensive salaries for the scamming lawyers and managers who worked at the city or were hired. Yes, the managers who are on leave, are still being paid, till their leave. The city council now has a majority of BS scam-artists who lie and deceive to get what they want. The Criminals sitting as county judge and District Attorney probably are teaching how to use the system for their advantage to the ones on City Council. Government is a fraud and needs to be dissolved.
