Former mayor underperforms

Our former mayor just ran against one of the Bush family members for the office of State Land Commissioner.

The results?

Winning a statewide race is a challenge for democrats in Texas.

Their candidates for governor and lieutenant governor got 39% of the votes.  Most of their other candidates received about 38%.

Our former mayor posted a 35% result in his race for land commissioner.

I don’t recall reading about that in the Times.  One would think that the story would be of local interest.

There is a reason for what you don’t get to read in the Times.

On a positive note we can be relieved that he didn’t win.  He might have torn down the Alamo to make way for a ball park.

We deserve better

Did anyone expect any other outcome? In his egoistical drive to remain revelant he campaigned for office. His claim that he did it for El Paso is pure bs, he did it for himself.

He needs to stay home and do some rocking in the chair, in front of a mirror. He still believes people want to hear that racket he calls singing. He believes he’s a hairless Willie Nelson.

Stay home and stop embarrassing El Paso !

l just find it hard to believe that “America’s Greatest Mayor” lost the election. Not that long ago, Cook was on a radio show where he spent 45 minutes saying absolutely nothing. He told the host that he might be interested in more regulations in regard to all of this drilling. Yeah, that’s guaranteed to get you elected in Texas. When the host mentioned that he believes that the oil boom that we are experiencing is good for the economy, Cook didn’t mention any safety or environmental concerns. So, the one topic he mentions is something that he knows nothing about. Then for the rest of the show, it was nothing but small talk and he strummed-out a few songs. Oh well, l guess shlubbing around Texas is more fun than paying your legal fees.

Cook was not in on the plan to tear down the ballpark, as his exit interview with El Paso Inc made clear. Pretty clear that Ms Wilson ran rings around him on that one.

It is pretty astonishing that the Democrats’ two candidates at the top of the ticket only pulled a few more points, after much more extensive campaigns and get-out-the-vote efforts.
