Another lie

It has now been over a year since the incident where our west side city representative was accused of threatening a city employee.

His crime?  Evidently telling her that his job required him to trim a tree that was on her property and obstructing street signage.

No one that knows where the case stands is talking.

The Times reported back in October of last year:

City Manager Joyce Wilson said all council members have to go through standard investigative procedures when allegations are raised against them.

“They are treated the same as any other citizen.  An investigation takes place and the outcome is referred to the District Attorney,” she said in an email.

The case has been handed over to the Special Investigation Group, a police unit formed to investigate allegations made against public officials.

Baloney

Our city representative is not being treated the same as any other citizen.

I hope that  one of our governmental watchdogs that attend city council meetings will ask the question.

We deserve better

Sadly, we no longer have Newspaper Tree…and it’s unlikely that either the Times or the Inc will investigate this. Your suggestion is the most likely avenue for a moment of publicity – but I can confidently say that it will be stonewalled until Ms. Lilly leaves office in mid-year; it’s already been deep-sixed for 13 months, only 8 to go. “It’s a personal matter.” “No, I meant it’s a personnel matter.” “We are still investigating, we’ll get back to you.”

I noticed “El Diario” is doing a much better job than the Times and the Inc. Perhaps El Diario might be interested in keeping the public informed about this matter.

Lilly called the city to have them trim her neighbor’s tree because she thought it was hanging down too low into the street. The city came to her house by mistake and started whacking away at her trees instead. Lilly went postal. The area was shut down for about four hours. There were about a dozen police cars and city vehicles there and at least that many employees milling around behind the crime scene yellow tape. I wonder who paid for that? I was there. At first I thought somebody got killed.

What El Paso needs is its own Special Victims Unit to investigate especially heinous crimes like the serial taping of taxpayers. That SVU can investigate this alleged crime, which didn’t result in anyone being killed, Just threatened to be killed. (And you thought that only in Mexico do politicians Barbour such evil thoughts and actions).
