Those of you who from time to time watch portions of our city council meetings have probably noticed that more and more often important agenda items are read by the city clerk and then voted on with absolutely no discussion.
The results are being wired beforehand.

Just goes to show you, the citizen input is just a smokescreen so we peasants feel good and perceive we have an actual voice in city government.

you got that right. Voting is done before the council meets. The public input is just for appearance. Just look at their faces its the look of hurry up and you are stupid.

Well THEY are Democrats, so that’s how they RULE us “Stupid, ignorant peons”. From way up HIGH on that pedestal, throne whatever it’s called. Yes, WE deserve better, but when people don’t think about the CONSEQUENCES of how they vote, WHO they vote for, these ARROGANT, DISRESPECTFUL politicians are what WE get. IF any of them run for RE-ELECTION next time, remember what we got. Same for Commissioners, people like Veronica Escobar.

Here is the reality. The public sector is the largest employer here. Come election time, those folks vote for having more tax dollars handed to them. So do the retired public sector folks and the folks who have the money to buy politicians. Given the voter apathy in the rest of the population it is easy to win elections if you’ve locked down those votes by promising to tax and spend more. The only way to change this dynamic is to have large numbers vote against the Shapleighite who is running (and most of them now are Shapleighite trainees–excuse me, I meant former Community Scholars). The problem is that so many jump into the primaries it is hard to get 50% and even harder to get folks back to the runoffs to vote again. And, worse we are moving into a zone where the top two choices are getting limited to equally bad for the taxpayer candidates because folks who aren’t bought and paid for see no value in running and losing. That said, if you don’t vote because you are frustrated by lack of choices the system wins.
