Our city council has raised our taxes again.
The Times explained it this way:
Because the average value of an El Paso home has increased, the average homeowner would pay about $95 more than last year.
The average value of an El Paso home this fiscal year is $129,915. With a $5,000 homestead exemption, the average homeowner would pay $1,053 next year.
Last year, the average home value was $124,299, and the tax rate was about 80 cents per $100 of property valuation. So, with the $5,000 homestead exemption, the average city property tax bill was about $958.
Let’s see
If last year the average was $958 and this year it is $1,053 that comes to a 10% increase.
Trashed
Let’s not forget that they also added $3 per month to our garbage bills in the form of a franchise fee. That comes to another $36.00 per year.
As a result that average homeowner will have a 13.9 percent increase in the amount they pay to the city.
We deserve better

Truly excellent point!

And let’s not forget, this valuation tax increase goes to all taxing entities (who may or may not add a tax increase). The total burden is even bigger. I signed the recall petition.

“Elections have consequences”. Can the CONSEQUENCES, robbery of taxpayers in El Taxo by these low-life politicians get any worse? Wait, THEY will take that as a “Challenge”. THEY refuse to pay Police, put them on the streets, highways, schools, but THEY can WASTE a $15,000 pay raise on the City “Manager”. Not one of these leeches should be re-elected. What is it THEY do for US?? THEY “Represent” only themselves and whatever THEY can steal from US.

Let’s ask for a report showing the salaries and perks for all supervisors and above working for the city – then you will know where the $968M truly goes

The City “Manager” is already OVER PAID and now another $15,000 pay raise? That’s more than many El Pasoans make in a year. How happy would El Pasoans who have ACTUAL JOBS, work for a living, be with a $15 pay raise?? And those are the people trying to SURVIVE the tax, waste, spend, tax some MORE, politicians of El Taxo. The PEOPLE, US “Peons” that THEY do NOTHING for. Anybody know the persons, location of a Recall Petition, organization up Northeast for Margo and District 4, MORGAN, please let us know. Taxation without ANY Representation.

The mythical value of your house goes up, so they raise your taxes. The city basically wants to share in the profit on your home even though they’re not helping you pay for it and they raise the value so they can get more. They get their pieces now, but you have to pay them now even though you won’t see a profit until you sell your home. Nice scam.

And at a certain point, high taxes make the actual value of your home go down because buyers can’t qualify for the loan when taxes are factored into the total payment. But CAD doesn’t factor that in to their estimation of value.

What does this have to do with the former Paso Del Norte group now Borderland Alliance? Why have our streets and highways been torn up for ten years. What was the deal with Country Club? Still killings of 75 people a month in Juarez. With El Paso electric the biggest corporate taxpayer, what does that say about our economy? Is this like a system of indentured servitude with no end in sight? Why would people over fifty stay and support a city that isn’t for them? What evil plan awaits tomorrow from our useless ( to me) city council and Mayor? Stayed tuned😠

There absolutely is “No end in sight”, except for maybe BANKRUPTCY Court. The city is BILLIONS$$$$ in debt and no way to pay it, except to tax, tax, tax US. The politicians, Mayor, City Council GIVE AWAY our tax assets to big business, local BILLIONAIRES, in return for campaign “Donations”. I am a Retired Federal employee, retired military, 25 years in El Taxo. It is a big mistake for ANY military, any Retiree to buy a home, to stay in El Taxo. “You” simply cannot survive the fabricated, inflated Property “Value” increases to support TAX INCREASES. Anybody know of Recall Petitions, please pass it around.

I actually get benefit from my city taxes (albeit not enough) but I get NO benefit from the remainder of the taxing enties — County, EPCC, Hospital, School. Those taxes include the fat pay raise that Escobar gave herself, now to be passed on to some other worthless County Judge. I guess you could call me a “supporter.”

Exactly, same here. Never been inside UMC Hospital. No kid in school in over 15 years. No Police on the streets, highways, so get NOTHING from El Taxo city, county. Guess we got to help the local idle rich support the politicians, carpet baggers, various other leeches.
