Facts can be inconvenient

The fellow over at refusethejuice recently wrote this:

The interesting thing about El Paso Speak is that they either have someone leaking executive session discussion to them or they are being advised directly by Four Names Allala.  They posted about some kind of “settlement” being offered.  That’s not public knowledge given I can’t find any reference to that anywhere and my request of information on that has been met with “executive session discussion items are not for public consumption.”  So, is El Paso Speak using personal email addresses or other means to influence city business?  Shouldn’t they be offering up whoever they are speaking with about official city business?  They are now the pot calling the kettle black.

At the end of the paragraph he asks “Shouldn’t they be offering up whoever they are speaking with about official city business?”

Another blog had previously posted:

He adds that asking “her to do so is not asking for a settlement, it’s asking her to surrender her quest for transparency”.

The blog is publicly posted and I would invite the author of refusethejuice to read it before jumping to conclusions.

Yes, facts are inconvenient when you claim them, but suffer from the ability to comprehend what you are reading. “Another blog” is talking about a “cash settlement” – something that many accused Allala of seeking months ago when she first filed legal challenge. The blog post you quote from is quite clear that she is not seeking a cash payout, but a moral win for transparency. Nowhere does it say, as you state “Word is that the parties are in settlement discussions.” I have seen nowhere in the real media or the fake media where the city and Allala are “talking settlement.” Where did you get this information? Allala’s own mouth piece – “another blog” – doesn’t even claim that there’s a settlement on the table, however, you do. What gives?

Now, you have two options here because you know something nobody else knows (which isn’t completely true as of this afternoon, at least one council member has leaked information from the executive session to others and this council member raves about El Paso Speak). And you have two options because I gave my readers two ways of looking at that bit of information you have that no one else has.

Option 1 – admit that a city council member has told you something they shouldn’t have told you.

Option 2 – admit Allala is your editor and controlling the words on these pages (if some settlement was on the table, she’d be within her right to talk about it).

Of course – this morning I would have believed it if you retracted your statement saying “it was just a rumor.” Now that I have confirmed that you are pretty much correct – I know that you either option 1 or option 2 is correct. So which is it?

Why don’t you guys lead by example with this whole transparency thing you demand of others.

      DK,

I’m just a person who occasionally comments on ElPasoSpeak. I frequently drink your “juice” because I’m interested in hearing all sides of an argument of issue while forming my own opinion..

I think you demanding transparency of private citizens, who are not public officials, is more than a little off base, assuming of course that the editors of this blog are not public officials themselves. Some folks can’t state their opinions openly without fear of economic reprisal, including a possible loss of their job. We should have learned that from the last national election during which more than one employer made their employees feel at risk for supporting the candidate the employer opposed. As far as I’m concerned, anonymity is part of freedom of speech, unless I am conducting the public’s business and have a fiduciary responsibility to voters and taxpayers.

Given the amount of time you appear to have put into your response, I was surprised, however, that you only offered the old hang-mouth dog two options, which seemed crafted to get one of the two answers you want and not necessarily the truth. Your two options seem about as intellectually honest as the old question: “Do your neighbors know that you beat your wife?”.

I hear information all the time, but not directly from any of the principals in matters. As a reader of this blog, I have now learned that a settlement is reportedly being discussed and I didn’t hear that directly through either of the two options you gave Brutus. Is it not possible that the old dog heard about this from an acquaintance of a city official or from a friend of Allala or while eavesdropping at a bar?

So DK, I am going to give you two options.

Option 1 — Admit that there are more than two options for how Brutus heard about the rumored settlement. You don’t even have to admit that you were wrong to only give him two options.

Option 2 — Restate that he only has two options, thereby admitting that you are simply trying to create your own “truth” and paint another blogger in a negative light.

You obviously don’t read my blog – I have no interest in demanding transparency of anyone. I really don’t care. I was simply pointing out that this blog’s authors demand transparency, but receive their information from non-transparent means – EXACTLY AS I DO.

You can’t hide your sources and then demand everyone else reveal theirs. Do as I say, not as I do?

Had El Paso Speak decided to stay neutral instead of taking on Allala’s cause, I wouldn’t have had a comment. However, despite the facts in front of them, they decide they need content so they will carry Allala’s water. Do remember that now even the El Dario will no longer chase Allala’s ghost having been burned way too many times.

Thanks for reading my blog – 5,000 people joined you yesterday.

” Do as I say, not as I do? ” that doesn’t work when applied to public employees verses private citizens. public employees should always have to be more transparent and private business only when they deal with public contracts. Somebody making money from Taxpayer funded work should always have to be more transparent. nice deflection though.

Thankfully, when I saw David K’s response to my comment I was reminded of the Doris Smith quote: “Arguing with a fool proves there are two.”

The “dialogue” yesterday and today proves that it is foolish to think one can have a reasonable, logical debate or discussion with David K. Case in point, he could not, would not, acknowledge that there are more than two ways Brutus might have learned about the rumored settlement discussions. He also refused to acknowledge the difference between transparency in public/government matters versus a private blogger not disclosing his or her sources. Tell that to The Washington Post. It seems pretty clear that he has an axe to grind with Allala because he can’t even criticize her without calling her childish names, which is the behavior of a 10-year-old bully.

In responding to my comment, he opened his with “You obviously don’t read my blog…” and closed with “Thanks for reading my blog…”. This suggests that he probably even argues with himself when there is no one else around.

It is hard to stand idly by and watch David K try to bully the people who are trying to make El Paso Speak a forum for discussion as opposed to a platform for the rambling monologues of a self-proclaimed King of blogs. Unfortunately, however, anyone who attempts to engage David K is simply being a straight man for his little online farce.

Fool me once, shame on him. Fool me twice, shame on me. David K isn’t going to sucker me into another foolish argument.

P.S. – David claims he had 5,000 visitors yesterday. Someone should tell him that he can’t count the 4,900 times he checked back in on his own page to see if someone had commented.

    Debra,
I feel your pain. When you present proof refuting his articles and the comments from his posters they don’t get published. I have screenshots to prove it. And he regularly uses red herring and strawman arguments. You say he gets his info from EPTImes. I say he gets it from the Neighbor Lady next door. Same thing…..

Another thing…..just because the city wants to keep the discussion (settlement) confidential does not necessarily mean other parties have agreed….just thinking out loud here.

Brut, I think you better do as Davey Boy says, because he is, after all, well…..uhmm…..oh yeah, the offspring of local B-list celebrities. In fact, he’s so “powerful” (he he he he) that he’s (supposedly) the biggest blogger in town, which is the equivalent of being the tallest female in an elevator. BTW – since you’ve outscooped “The King,” does this make you the new King?

This blog is head and shoulders above DavidK because of one simple fact: the writers live here and actually know what’s going on. DavidK lives in D.C. He may think he’s in the know, but what he knows is one-dimensional based upon what a few of his slightly well-connected family friends say. That’s just not enough to flesh out the whole picture. DavidK’s questioning of ElPasoSpeak indicates to me he lacks real local information for his blog.

Actually – this blog seems to only have activity when I’m the subject…

And I have never claimed to have more info than anyone else. I’m often the last person to know what’s going on. Even when I lived in El Paso I was the last to know. I’m not into breaking news – I’m into blabbing about nothing on the internet – and a lot of people really like it.

You like this blog because you apparently think Allala and friends should be running the city. You can admit that… I don’t know if you can defend it, but you can admit it.

Thank you DavidK for proving what I say about your one-dimensionality. Whatever the question is the answer is Allala. Whatever the problem is the source is Allala. Seems like Allala is your new Norma. I don’t know Allala. I do know that what I read on this blog is relevant to El Paso, whether I agree with it or not. You make the mistake of assuming you know why I and others like this blog. You build your case on an incorrect assumption. Quit attacking this blog and its writers and get back to blabbing about nothing. Yada yada …
