They gored the wrong ox

The El Paso Times wrote a good apology/retraction/clarification the other day.  You can read it here.

As part of a regular series of articles last week they published a biblical verse that was offensive to many.

In the retraction they wrote:

The verse was presented without the context or comment needed for better understanding.

They did the same thing here that they frequently do when they simply act as a media outlet and publish whatever press release that their allies want as though the press release was a news article written by a real reporter.

Will we ever see the Times apologizing to us for the way they publish articles without writing about the multiple sides of an issue?

Let’s look at that “good retraction” shall we? The first line is “For several years….” So they have been making this mistake for SEVERAL YEARS. And they just now noticed? Amazing.

Apparently, it took the “Jews hate Jesus” verse to get a rise out of some Rabbi in the community, otherwise they would not have even cared.

Missing in all of this was the “We hate homosexuals” verses, “We hate Women” verses and the “We hate Muslims” verses found littered liberally in the bible.

A “community paper” has no place printing quotes from a single religion’s book of worship. It is decisive and if I wanted to find Jesus maybe I should go to church.

Maybe they should have a daily “Science Says” quote instead, since they can’t seem to find and decent science news to print.
