The county can count

It seems that there are limits to the ball park story, at least at the county.

According to an El Paso Times article “Negotiations between the county and MountainStar over the use of the county’s parking garage fell through after the group offered to lease 600 parking spaces on games days for their employees for $1 a year”.

We don’t know if that offer was for $1 per year per parking space or $1 per year for the whole thing.

The sports group probably does not really plan to have 600 employees.  If they do, expect to pay a lot for each hot dog.  If it is true that the sports group wanted 600 spaces, it would seem reasonable to assume that the sports group was going to re-sell the spaces.

It is hard for me to believe that the sports group offered only $1.

Either way it would appear that they taxpayers are not going to subsidize this part of the plan.

Maybe the county could help the city learn how to negotiate better.

Something got better

Mountainstar just puts out these “joke” offers and hopes whomever it is, will just swallow it hook, line and sinker (as the City did).
Hoping the other side will find SOME justification for doing what Mountainstar wants.
Baseball cannot take dibs on EVERY parkling spot downtown.
Sooner or later attendance at the Plaza and Chavez Theater will drop off due to no parking available.
Stay awake County ! Splash your face with water and stay away when Mountainstar people are in the room so you arnt missing your watch, ring and end up giving away your children.
Parking from County . . . . MAY have to be reserved for the Plaza and Chavez theater.
As in most dogs (Chihuahuas) they will eat every bit of food before them and also eat and steal the food in the bowl just down the hall that is for another pet.

I know people right now, that will CHECK to see it baseball is going on downtown before commiting to tickets at the Plaza theater on the same evening.
Future promoters and performers will ALSO have to check the baseball schedule to see if baseball downtown will be on the same night at THEIR event, so they dont lose ticket sales at the Plaza and Chavez.
Parking is what killed downtown says Mr. Albert from the Popular Dry Goods, in the early 1970’s, he says to ME, as I worked for him at the Popular.
Bassett Center opened and he knew that the Popular HAD to be there to offset loss of sales downtown. They were “covering their bets” and (income) doing so.
During the last years of the Popular Dry Goods downtown they started “Stamping” (paying for) parking for people that bought stuff at the Popular. THATS how important it was !

Now, there has got to be a way for people with RESERVED TICKETS for the Plaza theater to also RESERVED PARKING also for the same event on the same night.

Just don’t plan on finding short-term parking at the airport. More than half of the short-term parking right in front of the terminal has been eliminated and given over to the rental car companies and for-profit shuttles, limousine services, etc. Naturally, they gave them the half closest to baggage claim, so assuming you can even find a spot, you will be schlepping your friends’ and families’ bags farther than you before.
