Our non-elected board of managers of the El Paso Independent School District is playing a dirty trick.
They have scheduled a special meeting of the board for today (May 6, 2014) at 2 PM.
On the agenda are numerous changes to personnel policies that will, among other things, give our not qualified superintendent the right to pick which teachers to fire.
Having the meeting at 2 PM will make it hard for teachers and members of the public to show up and voice their thoughts.
Cowardly
Yes some difficult decisions will need to be taken at the district in order to get the budget in balance. Leaving the teachers out of the dialogue is not fair. On this same agenda they are proposing millions of dollars worth of unnecessary construction.
Scheduling the meeting when the teachers are working is a dirty trick.
Normally I would not advocate people shirking their jobs. In this case I hope that the teachers get the blue flu and attend the board meeting.
The chief financial officer of the city is on the district’s board of managers. She wants to be the city manager. Is this how she plans to conduct business at the city?
Shame on them
We deserve better
Brutus
Giving the administration the right to fire based upon their whims makes retaliation even easier. Keep in mind the employees at Austin High School under John Tanner and Diane Thomas would have been fired under this proposal and likely would still be unemployed. It doesn’t amaze me anymore to see unethical administrators clamoring for more power while teachers who had nothing to do with the current scandal in EPISD are knocked around once again. EPISD teachers should strike, but since EPISD is within a kook state that will not happen. Elected board or appointed board, same old, same old.

When a teachers group complained about Cabrera and the Board being unwilling to discuss open enrollment before voting to enact it, Cabrera said: “We’re saying we can’t meet with the elected representative and others who request meetings as well because we’re in meetings all the time.”
No time to listen to the group that speaks for the teachers? Maybe they think that by ignoring the teachers, many will get fed up and leave and attrition will help with expense reductions.
The board president and his highly paid, unqualified, less-than-super attendant make quite a pair.

Um, wasn’t that Lorenzo Garcia’s MO, to control employees and the administrative process, including the audit function, through subterfuge and holding the axe over employees’ livelihood? Wasn’t the unelected Board of Mismanagers supposed to do better and restore the community’s trust? Someone hoodwinked us– AGAIN! (And they “tabled” the proposal… they’ll try to sneak it in again so they can use that against detractors from within; for us crazies opposition from the outside, with they use our children to retaliate against us? They are that u trustworthy.
