We have been told that about 500 Fort Bliss soldiers have been deployed to fight the Ebola outbreak.
News reports indicate that there are over 300 health care workers that have been infected. This is troubling. Were they not trained or is the virus spreading in ways that we do not understand?
The soldiers did not sign up for this kind of exposure. Some are concerned that they might bring the virus back. What will probably happen is that the soldiers will end up being quarantined before they return to town.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) web site tells us that unless things are changed we should see between 500,000 and 1.4 million cases in Africa by January 20, 2015.
According to the CDC “Halting the epidemic requires placing up to 70% of patients into either an Ebola Treatment Unit or in a community setting in which the risk of disease transmission is reduced and safe burials are provided.”
It looks like there is little hope for those that contract the disease in Africa.

So much misinformation out there. Look up what Firestone accomplished in isolating and treating this disease over there. Remember, that the area where the disease is now rampant is very primitive in terms of knowledge and materiel about hygiene and health care. Those people who have been infected while providing care have lacked adequate protection against it, and a part of the necessary protection is education. I do not believe any U. S. soldiers are being sent to provide patient care, but to assist in providing the places for care to be delivered, and to assist in controlling the population which resists efforts to hospitalize and isolate infected people. I have every confidence that our soldiers will be provided with all the information that they need to protect themselves before they put their boots on the ground.

The number of infections are most likely based on the number of people showing up for care but given the lack of transportation in Africa (quick) by the time someone not in a city realizes they are sick its too late. Throw in the funeral practices in Africa and the unwillingness to change the cultural norm there is basically no end in sight as to the number of infections. These numbers given are for those of us in the West to feel secure.
As far as El Paso goes all I can say is look at this TB mess that is still ongoing. The hospital in Nebraska that cared for an Ebola patient had people in full “moon suits” with an independent air supply for the medical provider while the local hospitals think a pair of clear goggles and a non full face mask without an independent air supply is sufficient to handle a patient with Ebola.

The healthcare workers in Africa have not been provided the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) required for Ebola.
They are supposedly going on strike today if provisions are not met.
From the photos it appears that correct PPE may not have been provided to health care workers in Dallas either.
Infection control for Ebola is much more specialized and complicated than anything US heathcare workers are trained for.
So as far as the ability of US hospitals in general to contain Ebola – not possible under current system.

Of the thousands of hospitals in the United States, only four have been training for years to deal with highly infectious diseases such as Ebola: Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, the National Institutes of Health in Maryland and Rocky Mountain Laboratories in Montana.
The country’s largest nursing organization, National Nurses United, surveyed 2,000 members. Of them, 76% said their hospitals hasn’t communicated any policy about how to admit Ebola-infected patients. And 85% said their hospitals haven’t provided education on Ebola where the nurses can interact and ask questions.
Nurses “are alarmed at the inadequate preparation they see at their hospitals,” said the group’s executive director, RoseAnn DeMoro.
El Paso is in no way qualified or prepared to be a designated quarantine site
