Ball Game Special

This from Helen Marshall:

I am glad that Sun Metro is offering help to get to the ball games, more or less confirming that there is in fact far too little parking downtown, especially if there is another event on the same evening as a game.

BUT.  Where we are, near Kern Place, is  about two miles to downtown or to the GLory Road transfer station (where there is no service).  To use the Ball Game Special, I would have to drive nearly ten miles to the Remcon Transfer Station, and then take the bus back downtown!  Seems a bit crazy.  This scheme works for those who are near that transfer station, or live north of it in the Upper Valley. …

The service Sun Metro is providing to the baseball games could be viewed as “charter” bus service. The Federal Transit Administration does not allow our transit system to provide charter service. In effect the City is subsidizing Foster by bringing in fans.

Really Helen? I went to an event, the Seinfeld performance at the Abraham Chavez Thaeter, with a game occurring at the same time. Both were either sold out or near capacity. In addition, it was on an Alfresco Friday which also had a healthy crowd. We had no problem finding parking. Most game nights we find a meter within a block or two of the ball park and it’s free after 6:00 PM.
In regards to the shuttle, if you live in the Kern area, why not take a regular bus downtown? Being only a couple miles out, the bus would have to make a limited amount of stops in between.
From your location, Uber may be a good alternative. Cost would be minimal with door to door service.
Of all the things to complain about, parking and transportation are not two of them.

What formula do you use for finding parking? Especially meter parking? I have problems finding parking anytime I go downtown…

The issue is not how many stops the bus makes. The latest that the bus I would take leaves downtown at 6:25 except on Saturday and Sunday when it is 6:00 p.m. Evening ball games start at 7:05! If I drive to Glory Road and park there I can get a bus back at 7:50 (or 5:10 on Sunday. As for dining downtown, dinner would have to be quick, and no restroom stops on the way out. (There is one other bus that would return at 9:15 during the week and stop at Glory Road, but on weekends, when I or most of us likely be going, it leaves downtown at 8:15 or 6:40 p.m.) Sun Metro is not useful if you are going downtown to a concert or other event that will end much after 9 p.m.

You are very fortunate to find free parking in a block or so of the ballpark. Mills Building is now charging $10 for “event parking” on ballgame nights. I assume they can do that because most fans are not coming up with free parking in walking distance…

I beleive you will have to wait until they build the Trolly System for your ride downtown…..UBER is good and No Tax increase for their service!

There is too little parking downtown only if you get there by car. Ride the bus or trolley.
