Two QOL projects to be killed

The approved budget of the Westside Pool is $13.4 million dollars. To help pay for this augmented design, City Council directed staff to delay construction of improvements to Westside Community Park and a new park in the Coronado area of the Westside. The development of those projects, also funded by 2012 Quality of Life Bond, will commence after most of the other Quality of Life Bond projects have been funded and only if funds remain available.

In other words the parks will be sacrificed.

You can read the official statement here at the city’s web site.

We deserve better

Until the City’s credit (and ability to sell bonds) gets cut off will they be forced to live within their means.

If much of the property taxes collected goes towards INTEREST, how does that increase the quality of life or services that a city needs?
What does paying on Interest get you?

    (Nothing)

Wonder what percentage of public funds (Income to the city) goes towards interest?
How much is that in total dollars per year?

  2. So, it is becoming blatantly obvious that the so-called QoL bonds were nothing more than just a collection of pigs in pokes purchased by El Paso voters over the last ten or twelve years. One stop shopping, as it were.

Kill the blasted arena because it’s another behemoth financial disaster in waiting…..and kill the science museum because they’re smart enough to have managed to do without waiting for QoL bungling.
