The May 31, 2015 financial report from our county hospital shows them continuing to lose money.
This is our county hospital alone, not considering the children’s hospital. We have already learned that the children’s hospital loses money every month.
The report shows the total loss for the first eight months ended May 31, 2015 at $3,570.972.
If we project that out for a full twelve months at the same rate they will lose $5,356,458.
Then again they may feel the need to add to this loss by increasing their bonuses.

Being a County Hospital, I suspect it has always operated at a loss. That is why we have to subsidize it so heavily with our tax dollars. That would be OK, if they just stuck to providing quality healthcare, but it has been a long time since they focused on that, hasn’t it?

Now that we have Obama Care (a Democratic imitative) and everyone is supposed to have insurance and we have plenty of hospitals and clinics in the area let’s shut both UMC and Childrens down and sell the buildings for someone to turn into downtown hotels like so many of our leaders think we need more of (a Independent opinion). Think of the taxpayer savings and the income to the county/city..

They can’t break even despite their cost-cutting that included reduction of staff in late 2014, elimination of jobs that came open, furloughing of employees without pay, no merit increases, and other things that hurt the average employees. However, there was no planned reduction in executive bonuses and the execs got their raises. See budget highlights section of the 2015 budget.

The County should sell UMC. They of course will still have to pay for indigent care but they could demand proof that those served were actual citizens therefore lowering their costs.

Friday afternoon update from Escobar on the UMC/EPCH negotiations:
“The good news is that the lawyers have been in constant communication.”
Once again she refuses to provide any meaningful details.
She is referring of course to the expensive teams of lawyers on both sides. Why do I get the feeling the attorneys on BOTH sides are dragging this out to feather their own nests.
We deserve better. We deserve leadership that believes in accountability.
