Another example of how little our elected officials know about the laws that govern them is item 16.2 on the Tuesday, March 8, 2016 city council agenda. It reads:
Discussion and action regarding open records requests released to person(s) and/or petitioner(s) convicted of a felony and/or misdemeanor of a Crime of Moral Turpitude.
Just talkin ya know
The agenda item does not indicate that someone wants to consider denying public information act (open records) requests to these people. The city representative responsible for placing the item on the agenda has probably been told that council cannot deny requests to those people unless they are still in the lockup.
We will probably hear some kind of mumbo/jumbo from the representative that explains that it was not her intention to break any state laws. She probably will say that she just wanted to discuss the issue for the fun of it.
Maybe next we will see council trying to suspend the laws of gravity.
Maybe we should make passing a civics test a requirement to taking office.
We deserve better

Emma is a idiot and an example of the people that EL Paso keeps electing that has gotten then in the problems they are facing now. As an elected official, from her required open records training, she should know better.
And some can’t understanding why the CC and the city of El Paso keeps getting caught violating the law.
Emma should be taken out to San Jacinto Plaza and publicly caned for such BS in her attempt to violate the peoples rights to open records. Oh sorry San Jacinto Plaza is still not finished and open to the public. Ok in front of City Hal will do.

Yep Emma is sounding like Scott Walker governor of Wisconsin and his ideas about the people’s access to open records. Hey Emma are you another closet Republican on the CC like Noe and Niland?

So, let’s see…. The court had to order Hillary to turn over her emails, which belong to the government, the public. There was nothing voluntary about it. So, does that make her a closet Republican?

This is about your corrupt CC and others at the city who do not want people knowing or have access to their dirty actions and calling them out on it. Since most citizens in El Paso are to gutless, spineless and out right lazy to stand up and give them crap about their poor actions and behaviors we are Sure Emma and others are going after every one they think they can shut down who may question them and call them out.
Hey Brutus you may have to worry you may be next on their list.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Walker recently questioned whether it is even constitutional to take away the gun rights of people involved in domestic abuse, but our local bozos want to deny a piece of paper to someone charged or convicted with a misdemeanor. Our local officials think they can just ignore state laws or unilaterally change them. Acosta knows full well that phone numbers and addresses can and are redacted. This is an abuse of power.

Moon, this not a party affiliation issue. It is a challenge to basic rights. Ortega and a few others have not released documents so you’re saying he’s a Republican ?

Nope by no means all officials in local government play the open records game but on a national level in the last year it has been the Republicans trying to come up with way to limit the citizens access to open records when they did not want the public to know what they were doing in the people’s name.
Our post was a cut at a Democrat who is trying to act like Scott Walker and his attempt to limit the rights of the people to open public records.
Hey we will throw rocks at any side that tries to interfere or restrain the rights of the people to open records.
We believe in what our Texas law says and holds it sacred covenant between the people (the Masters) and their government ( the servants) as out lined at the start of chapter 552 Texas governmental code and will spit in the eye of any elected or appointed officials who tries and violate this law or the spirit. Yep they will catch hell from us every time we catch them no matter the party.
Sec.552.001.
A. POLICY; CONSTRUCTION
Under the fundamental philosophy of the American constitutional form of
representative government that adheres to the principle that
government is the servant and not the master of the people, it is
the policy of this state that each person is entitled, unless
otherwise expressly provided by law, at all times to complete
information about the affairs of government and the official acts
of public officials and employees. The people, in delegating
authority, do not give their public servants the right to decide
what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to
know. The people insist on remaining informed so that they may
retain control over the instruments they have created. The
provisions of this chapter shall be liberally construed to
implement this policy.
(b) This chapter shall be liberally construed in favor of
granting a request for information.
