How much longer should the situation over at Sun Metro be allowed to continue?
At the November 15, 2016 board meeting the results for the 2016 fiscal year were presented.
They missed all but one goal on the slide.
Ridership was down 8%
Cost per trip was up 10%
Collisions were up 17%
Workers compensation cases were up 33%
The column on the far right is meaningless.
Isn’t it time that the board (city council) takes corrective action?
We deserve better

FWIW, speaking as a former Telephonic Case Manager for Workers’ Comp cases, it is my recollection that a high incidence of work related injury claims is usually tied in with a very poorly managed organization, with a large number of unhappy, or even disgruntled employees. IOW, the worse management treats employees, the higher the incidence of work related injury.

The City will continue to protect the First Transit management team while they hide behind excuse after excuse. Is one of the management team”s members still using a City computer to conduct personal business?

Every time I see a bus, especially the accordion ones, it is empty or nearly empty. I am in favor of a mass transit bus system, but not in favor of over-capacity.

A small fleet of motorcycles with sidecars would meet Sun Metro’s needs just fine.

The real problem with the bus system is the same as the problem with Christianity. Everyone wants someone else to use the bus and everyone wants other people to act like Christians. Others have said it before, but first we need to look at who uses the bus and why. Maids use the bus. A few workers use the bus. A few students use the bus. The people using the bus are the ones who can least afford to pay. Is the objective is to cut down on the number of vehicles on the streets? Is the objective to provide maids for upper middle class people? Is the purpose to improve air quality? If it is for any of those reasons, the best thing is to stop charging anything to ride the bus. Just accept the idea that it costs as much to secure and count the fares as is brought in. If you want other people to ride the bus so you can have shorter commutes in your car or so you can have a maid or so you can have cleaner air, then you are going to pay for those things. Free is hard for potential bus riders to resist.
