According to a Times article the other day:
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement recently arrested 26 people in El Paso during the agency’s largest ever nationwide gang crackdown.
Count us among those that want thugs taken off the streets.
However, as far as we know it is not illegal to belong to a gang in the United States. It is illegal to perform or be involved in the performance of certain acts.
Why is it that ICE is performing “gang crackdowns”?

Is this a case of the publicity people misreporting what was done, or is this agency doing the job of other law enforcement groups?

I suspect that they are, indeed, doing the job of local law enforcement. But, then, these people have long thought of themselves as something between cops and military. That’s all part of the Gestapo image they are projecting to the unsuspecting public.

A national news report on the ICE gang arrests says it “targeted gang members and associates involved in transnational criminal activity, including drug trafficking, weapons smuggling, human smuggling, sex trafficking, murder and racketeering.” How do you translate this to “Gestapo” tactics?

If you’re not an attorney, you missed your calling. Including “part of” with the “Gestapo” does not dilute the meaning.

Authorities have long known that illegals comprise a significant portion of gang members, help to shelter illegals, and are often involved in the business of smuggling people across borders.

Because those on the left like John make any kind of enforcement of the law that they disagree with and if especially promoted by Republicans as being equated with being some how connected with being a Nazi. See the left, like John, like to paint with the broadest demonizing brush ,in the worse way, those they disagree with. It is a poor attempt to make it look like those with opposing views are some how far less moral and ethical in behavior, thinking and actions than those John supports instead of people just having opposing views, opinion and disagreements. In doing so doesn’t make others necessarily having dark evil intent like real Nazis. It’s the standard straw man argument of the left these days just throw the Nazi card, or the sexist card,or the race card ETC.,ETC! and this victimization status will support your argument.

I don’t agree with John on some things, and I definitely disagree with him putting all law enforcement and “these people” in the same category. So take this with the spirit with which it’s intended: When you said “the left, like John” you did just what you accused him of ….. you painted both “the left” and John with the broadest demonizing brush as though every left-leaning person sees every issue the same way.
We all need to take a deep breath occasionally and be a little nicer (even when people piss us off) so that we can try to maintain what I believe was the original spirit of this forum. We can articulate opposing views without launching into denigrating, personal attacks on one another. Or at least, I would like to think that we can.
Often, the things we agree on are much more important than the things we disagree on.

Sorry to trigger and offend you but the left is promoting openly there is a Nazi around every corner and if you see one punch them and a racist if you happen to be white or your automatically a sexist because your just male or you homophobic if you are not a loud supporter of the LGBT community or even question that support. I thank you, too. For the record, my remarks do not necessarily mean that it is my belief that any move by law enforcement in regards to laws that I do not agree with means that I am leaning Left or Right. It is not because of any particular law that I am upset. It is because of the methods employed by CBP, especially those that I have personally encountered, that I paint ICE with a broad brush by likening them to the Gestapo.

These gangs operate across state lines and are thus legitimate targets for federal law enforcement. I’m surprised no one is calling it racist because most of them are Mexican or Central American, clearly an oppressed class.
