City clerk retires

We recently witnessed the retirement of the city’s municipal clerk after 30 years of service to the community.

Mrs. Momsen was a steadying influence on the groups that have constituted our city councils.

Without her even more of the rules would have been ignored and we would have worse off than we are now.

According to an article in El Paso Inc.

She politely declined to be interviewed, but when asked why she’s retiring now, she said, “You know, you just know.”

Unfortunately we do.

She often seemed to be the only one at a city council meeting that was concerned about the citizens.

We thank her for her service and will miss her.

Richarda was wonderful. When I was ED for the Housing Finance Corporation, I inherited boxes of old bond transcripts from our law firm that included bonds issued by the Industrial Development Corp, aka, “Bucks for Our Buddies,” sort of the crony history of El Paso in the 70s and 80s. I had no idea what to do with these and that’s where she comes in.

Richarda’s people were great at helping to organize, catalog and box these for storage at their Texas Ave facility, preserving a real history of this part of El Paso.

Best wishes, Richarda. You were a voice of sanity. Thank you.
