ESPN cowers before the crowd

Where will it stop?

The other day the sports network ESPN removed one of their announcers from the broadcast of the  University of Virginia opening football game.

His problem?  The announcer’s name is Robert Lee.

Has common sense been sacrificed to fear of being branded politically incorrect?

Is the mob in control?  Are we seeing the beginning of an American Reign of Terror?

We deserve better

I am reminded of a quote from George Orwell’s 1984: “Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

  2. JerryK says:

Probably no more “Dukes of Hazard” reruns, either.

  3. Old Fart says:

“stupid is as stupid does says,” now why in the ‘holy hell’ does anyone need to take a weapon of any sort to a rally, be it political, or other function? What are those who need to carry any kind of a weapon so afraid of? Please kindly explain?

  4. Beto Moore says:

Thanks for throwing the red meat out Brutus. Just in time.

  5. old gringo says:

Why, methinks you are all missing the point. What is being implied is that Gen. Robert E. Lee was an oriental, therefore….

  6. Tired of It says:

And to think I served 12 years in the military and in Vietnam so these politically correct socialist liberals could destroy the country I served to defend.

    • Reality Checker says:

Sure, blame it on the liberals. That’s a cop out. Both left and right are to blame for the sorry state of our society. The problem is both sides are unwilling to accept any of the responsibility or tolerate a point of view other than their own.

  7. Tickedofftaxpayer says:

If you read the full ESPN release which chastises whomever leaked this assignment change to the media, it is obvious that no one outside ESPN would have known about it prior to game. Supposedly there was concern about what would happen to Lee’s feelings if he was joked about on social media (which is pretty much happening now). I suspect some thin skinned corporate executive was actually afraid of the criticism that might be leveled at ESPN after the game by left leaning media anxious to keep Charlottesville front and center. Instead it is making ESPN look incredibly stupid.

Thanks for posting this ESPN story on your blog, as it shows just how nutty things have become.

On page 5A of today’s Thursday El Paso Times, there’s an interesting story “Violence at rally in Charlottesville leads to soul searching at ACU.” It’s good to see that some in the serious media are now taking a good, deep look into some of the past bull shit.

Any ‘shit head’ that wares a mask, or carries any sort of a weapon type instrument, needs to be separated and arrested at any public rally.

    • stupid is as stupid does says:

Does that include arresting people carrying firearms or just the ones carrying other things you consider to be weapons? Or do you want to give the KKK, white supremacists, and Nazis a free pass under the 2nd Amendment?

    • Voter says:

Isn’t wearing a mask at a demonstration against the law? Some years back, a bunch of mask wearing antifa were arrested as they protested a global economic summit. If it is not illegal, it should be. It is reminiscent of the KKK and serves to hide identity which in turn promotes violent behavior.

  9. Tim Holt says:

Do you have the full story here Brutus? Were there threats made against this person? Was ESPN keeping their employee safe?

“After the violence in Charlottesville, which left one person dead, ESPN executives and Mr. Lee decided that for his safety it would be best to have him to work on a different game that Saturday, a network spokesman said.”

If they moved him because of safety concerns, then you should be applauding ESPN.

    • Progress says:

Your reply is even more ridiculous than the ESPN response. An Asian named Robert Lee probably has less to fear on this Earth than 97% of the global population. The fact that you conflate silliness to some impending doomsday scenario demonstrates the ridiculous nature of “woke” politics. Maybe you should build a bomb shelter and stay in it until you can force everyone to think and believe what you feel is appropriate. Now that America is no longer the land of the free you can oppress whoever you want, as long as you do it for the “right” reasons. Hitler and Stalin both did the very same thing, so you are in good company.

    • abandon hope says:

Are you serious? If his life was being treated the story ESPN released to the media should have been “Man’s life threatened because hysterical leftists don’t like his name.”

    • Chico says:

Progress and Abandon Hope, you guys just don’t understand white privilege. Tim, explain to them.

      • ManintheMoon says:

Tim’s going to through out some bullshit on White privilege that most Whites in America never received! Just another poor attempt to make a special privilege professional victim class that the Fascist left progressive Democrats have exploited for years!
        I ain’t no fortunate one!
