Sun Metro shrinks some more

The sun is rapidly setting on Sun Metro.

Their fiscal year 2017 performance numbers are out and they show an 9.3% decrease from 2016.

That’s after a 9.2% decrease from 2015 to 2016.

From 2014 to 2015 ridership decreased 3.9%

At this rate it won’t be long before we can have buses with no drivers since there won’t be any passengers.

We deserve better

Oh, don’t worry. As soon as that Trolley to/from nowhere is up and running, those numbers will magically rise, ’cause so many tourists will flock to the City just for that experience.

They don’t even have three major parts of the Brio line finished yet, so those numbers are apparently meaningless and/or are evidence that more spending is necessary. Only in El Paso do we spend money to build new schools for declining enrollment, build super-transit systems for fewer and fewer people year-over-year, literally blow up city hall to build the two wealthiest families in town a stadium for their hobby minor league team, and soon will give them an arena, but only after taxpayers pay millions to law firms to sue against our own interests and literally against what was voted for in the bond vote. There should literally be politicians in jail over how any of these events were sold and then rolled out in reality. Instead, all the politicians are now gone and the local media never had a serious question for a single one of them.

WHO has an extra 2+ hours to travel by bus from the far east El Paso to downtown ?
And if they are going on . .to . . the west side or Sunland Park Mall another hour or so ?
From the far east side. . . a person cannot catch the earliest bus and make it to jury duty for the 8:30am roll call.
    Real close call.
The politicians just move on to their old job/ next job. No responsibility if they fail-big-time.

Like every other “Business” the City is involved in, the Sun Metro operates at a LOSS on the backs of the TAXPAYERS. Up Northeast never see more than 2-3 people on the buses during the day time hours. After dark, at night, the buses are all empty. That includes the “Super-double” buses they use. Must cost several HUNDRED$$$$ to haul EACH passenger. Apparently it’s only maids, baby sitters that ride from downtown and back again at night. Same for their little Trolley “Tourista attraction”. So what exactly do El Pasoans get out of Sun Metro? Pretty much the same as we get from the City’s, Mountain Star Sports baseball field or what the TAXPAYERS would get from the Arena THEY want US to buy for Mountain Star Sports. Nada ! ! All that WE every get from anything THEY do to US, is TAX INCREASES. Why don’t THEY use this MILLIONS$$$ wasted money to fix streets, clean up El Taxo?. The city is just one big bumper to bumper traffic jam, North, South, East and West. Numerous accidents with virtually no Police working the streets. City so broke, no money to pay them?.

Obviously, all the frugal, health conscious people of El Paso are now using the ‘Bicycle Lanes’ and riding their bicycles, rather than spend money riding Sun Metro. I guess they are riding at night though, as I never see any bicycles in the bicycle lanes!!!

Don’t give them any ideas. Next thing you know, they will be wanting more of our money to implement driverless bus technology.
