The two slides below came from a presentation that was on the August 14, 2018 city council agenda.
The first one tells us that city staff believes it would cost one billion dollars to repave all of our city streets.
Staff indicates that on average a street needs to be repaved every 25 years.
Their arithmetic concludes that the annual cost of repaving the streets should be about $39 million.
How are they doing?
The second slide tells us what has been happening.
Yet we continue to spend money on niceties.
The tax man cometh.

Exactly what some of us have been screaming about for – literally – years! Fix the damn streets! One would think that elected officials would realize, sooner or later, that all the fancy doodads, gewgaws, and toys in the world are not worth a tinker’s damn, if people cannot get to them!

If the stupid survey the city keeps quoting hadn’t forced residents to pick three priorities and instead allowed them to pick just what they thought were priorities, I’m guessing streets and police would have been all most cared about.

It would seem that arenas, stadiums, cultural centers and trolleys are more important than paving streets. Isn’t that how Mr. Schwarzbein thinks? Remember in November.

And the other question is how well do they do the original and subsequent paving? Does anyone really think that the streets here will last for 25 years? Certainly not the Kern Place area…

Exactly, John Dungan. Splash ponds, MORE splash ponds, new grass at schools, MORE new grass at schools. tennis courts, (Tennis courts, really?), soccer fields for Juarez teams, Multi-MILLION$$$ “Improvements” to the MULTI-MILLION$$$ Mountain Star, John Cook, City Council ball field. The Mayor WANTS a NEW Police Headquarters. Why?? There are virtually NO Police on the streets any more. The MAYOR, Silly Council, City “Manager” can’t afford to PAY them. I’m sure they probably need to make another payment to the Ad Magazine that say’s El Paso is the “Safest” city in the country, the world. A BILLION$$$ , MORE in debt, no way to ever pay it, so might as well keep wasting, spending, INCREASING taxes on the PEOPLE.

Read the EP Times story today about the vast amounts of overtime being paid to EP police…some earning twice their base salary in overtime…El Paso may not be able to “afford” to pay the police but something is happening…

Really ? Can drive around all day, US54, I-10 and never see a patrol car, any radar vehicles any where. The city can’t afford to pay them, so how is there so much “Over time” pay? Rush hours, construction areas, congested areas, traffic lights out, speeders, wreckless driving……..where are they? I know. Maybe the CITY, politicians, City “Manager” are making US pay Police overtime to work their baseball field at night? Because the city is broke, bankrupt, the politicians have turned EPPD into a REACTION Force. They are allowed to show up when something happens, to clean up the mess. Drunks, wreckless drivers, speeders, traffic accidents……………..
