Several days ago l accidentally stumbled across this youtube vid, ‘The truth about immigration and welfare.’ lt’s 36 minutes long and if you don’t like it after 3 minutes, turn it off.
He ignores the fact that the value of an individual escaping poverty and improving his or her condition of life is not reduced by the existence of others in poverty. Saving a single starving child is no less worthwhile an endeavor if there are a hundred other starving children.
Yeah, but with the numbers of poverty stricken illegal aliens showing up at our borders now, we are going to overload our social welfare systems to the point where US citizen kids are the ones who suffer. We are the only industrialized nation in the world who hasn’t moved to merit based immigration for that reason. Moving the slums of Guatemala to our inner cities isn’t going to help anyone.
I can’t believe how negative the comments are about this woman who has been chosen to replace Dr. Natalicio. Also, shame on KTSM 9 NEWS for being so one-dimensional in its reporting. They’ve managed to take a person who has stellar experience in politics, in the military, and in education and make her look like a homophobic tyrant that shouldn’t even set foot in El Paso. No wonder most people have started to ignore television news reporting. There’s ALWAYS a bias rather than actually REPORTING the news.
UTEP is fortunate to get such a successful new leader. Ironically, ti brings back memories of 1969 for me when I graduated (from Lawrence University) and our outgoing president, Dr. Curtis Tarr, was tapped to be Sec. of the Air Force in the Nixon administration. What goes around comes around if you wait long enough 🙂
John Hogan,
You are correct on this one. I knew we had struck a gold mine in getting this woman. I really don’t know how we were so lucky. But unless she puts a surtax or fee on being gay at UTEP we should count our blessings and give her a chance.
Four years as president of a South Dakota university with less than 3,000 students does not qualify as “stellar experience” in education. As for her experience in politics, the last thing we need is politicians running more things.

Ask yourself what’s in it for me and mine. Not much if you’re looking at millions of quasi-literate, unskilled illegals.
