Why would El Paso County residents be seeking the privilege of taxing themselves through our vehicle registration? Why would we need an additional $10 collected on every vehicle?
Thanks PUBLIUS. And look at who our local state legislators are who are pushing this shitty bill.
My suggestion look at Brutus’s ‘SOUND OFF’ link at the top right of his page; and let the State Representatives and State Senators OUTSIDE of El Paso, who are on the Transportation Committee, know there are El Paso citizens who are against this shitty bill.
In addition, consider calling some of the local TV STATIONS and let them know of the possibility of another, likely coming, hidden, shitty fee increase. KVIA has this thing called the ‘I Team.’ Also the other stations do some equally good reporting.
Legislators like to pull this hidden shit ‘out of local public view.’ Wonder if this initiative is being pushed on our legislators by the city and county? The last two years the city has gone crazy with all its tax and fee increases.
It might also be a good topic for one of Brutus’ always interesting, daily ‘golden nugget’ topics, that he is very good about surfacing to his readers
This was all Joe Pickett. He promoted the idea for years that up charges in vehicle registration wouldn’t be a burden to taxpayers and could help fund roads.of course when he started doing that we didn’t have the second highest property taxes in the nation.

ANONYMOUS: This my be a ‘safe guard’ provision in the bill; “(a)] with a population of less than 700,000 or 9 more than 800,000 may increase the additional fee to an amount that
10 does not exceed $20 if approved by a majority of the qualified
11 voters of the county voting on the issue at a referendum election,
12 which the commissioners court may order and hold for that purpose.”
But the above is apparently only the first reading of the bill, and may change as the proposed bill moves through the legislative process.
Literally tens of millions of dollars GIVEN to Great Wolf to build a water park resort. The demolition of Cohen to build a water park. And now the city is considering buying EPISD’s Ross Middle School property to build another water park. What the f___ is going on?
l do apologize for being more than just fashionably late for ‘Saturday’s free-style dance’ but l just ran across this 14 minute vid on The Ten Dumbest Cities in America. (published 3/28/19) l was slightly surprised that we were only in 4th place. Knowing the level of “common sense” that our loco politicians possess, if we ever did take the Bronze Medal, they would probably spend a fortune to have it gold plated.
