If the police department thinks that they need a new training academy facility why don’t we get them to buy and remodel one of the schools that EPISD has recently closed?

Are you saying the old neighborhood schools would make poor locations for an outdoor firing range? The multi-purpose buildings could be converted to indoor ranges.

Because, because, because the POLITICIANS got to get that half-BILLION$$$ Bond dumped on taxpayers. John Hogan, you got it right. In a school HUNDREDS of offices, training rooms, a gym with showers, work-out areas, an auditorium, media room for visiting politicians, speeches. A lunch room, okay, okay a MESS Hall. Hard-top for formations, more training. Build a firearms range and they’ve got it. Why are the POLITICIANS suddenly interested in the Police? After the mass murder, THEY are finally deciding that their turning the Police Department into a “Re-action Force”, taking them OFF the streets, keeping them in the stations, coffee rooms, stashing them at the ball field has not worked out. Delayed RESPONSE, 6 minutes for ANYBODY to RESPOND to a mass murder?? More innocents could have been lost, but the killer ran out of ammo and was LEAVING the area, BEFORE Police arrived.

More capital spending for facilities has nothing to do with more police officers. When are they going to talk about the money required to put more uniformed officers on the streets?

That is the “Elephant” in the room the El Taxo politicians do not want to talk about. There are few to no Police on the streets, neighborhoods of El Paso. The station parking lots are full. THEY have turned the Police into a “Reaction Force”. A 911 call, everybody folds the cards, gets the guns out of drawers, gear up to respond. 6 minutes to “Respond” to the recent terrorist incident, mass murder? Surprising the casualties were not higher. By the time Police “Responded” the killer was out of ammo and in the process of escaping. THEY don’t want to PAY them, fund Retirements. El Paso POLITICIANS created this scenario. What do THEY allow to happen NEXT time?? How many NEXT time?

Look, at the end of the day, all of this arguing whether she resigned or not is not even an El Paso issue. There are at least 6 cases VERY similar to this (one included a judge accidentally putting a wrong word on a website that inferred he was running for a different position). This is a Texas issue plain and simple. The courts have decided against what Hernandez is arguing already . Is it a dumb law being upheld and interpreted badly ? Perhaps (and likely for me), but it is not an El Paso , or mayor, or city council issue. It’s Texas law. Council is in a tough decision because I know for a fact that the Attorney General of the state is behind the scenes pushing for El Paso to simply follow the laws of the state.
And for everyone saying City of El Paso will cost taxpayers its completely false (although a local news station erroneously reported that). Council has until Sep 20 to call the election and it will be added onto the ballet of the bond election already taking place . Anything after would cost taxpayers money .
At the end of the day, the account is traced back to Hernandez and she has no one to blame but herself for surrounding herself with incompetent people all around. The Mayor is simply taking the opportunity that is in front of him to potentially get out a rep he clearly does not like. Nothing corrupt about it but clearly it’s politically motivated.
