Missed an anniversary

I missed an anniversary yesterday.

On September 22, 1862 President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

This was better.

true that. i keep hearing about “america’s racist history”, yet america didn’t own slaves, democrats were the predominate slave owners in america. if anyone oers reparations it would be democrats, not all americans.

Booth was not a Democrat. He was a member of the Native American Party, later renamed the American Party and also known as the Know Nothing Movement, which attracted nativists who wanted to limit immigration into the United States.

If Booth were alive today, he would be wearing a MAGA cap.

then why did he kill lincoln? and show some proof he wasn’t a democrat, you are merely speculating about his involvement in another party. democrats today are just as hateful and violent today as they were back then. if you doubt that wear a maga hat in public and see how long it takes before you get spit on or hit.

I guess if I was in the party of slavery and the ku klux klan I would blame everything on republicans, too.

OMG! You guys just don’t give up, do you?! The post today is not about partisan politics! It is about the Emancipation Proclamation! As for blaming everything on the Democrats of more than a 150 years ago, please be informed (because reminders don’t work with you unknowns) that yesterday’s Democrats are not the same as today’s, any more than today’s republicans are like those of even Ike! Both parties have changed, yugely!

    Dear J.D.,
The left has not changed but is trying to change historical facts….
150 years ago was and is a good day.

A better debate: why did he issue the proclamation at that time? He could have done it earlier but waited until the war effort needed a boost? And the Irish rioted wildly in New York as a result and killed many blacks. What’s up with the Irish? Maybe they should have to pay the reparations? Speaking of reparations, it sounds like civil matter. If a black person today feels they have standing, they should sue the estate of some plantation owners. Why would I have to pay them? My family fought in the union army – is t that enough? Maybe the south owes me reparations. Then again, if eve had t tempted Adam with the damn apple, we would all be in paradise today. Women owe me reparations. My wife better make something good for dinner tonight…
