The city is adopting a new parking app named “Park 915”.
This slide is part of a presentation that will be made in a special city council meeting Monday, October 14, 2019.
Real time?
Supposedly the app will allow us to parking spaces that are available at the moment we look.
How can it do that?
If someone parks a vehicle in a spot and ignores the electronic app the spot is still going to be occupied.
We can see that the app could tell us if a spot is supposed to be unoccupied but confirming that a spot is open will require visual confirmation or electronic sensors.
Is this another case of over-promising?

I agree it can never be totally accurate. Guess it means you will be doing more driving downtown looking.

Usually when meters become unoccupied, they fill up in 3 or 4 seconds. Or. . . there is still a car there with expired time on the meter. I used to work downtown and the meter parking turnover is very fast.

And given the rules about hands free driving, how do you check the app while looking for a space if you are driving alone? Stop and block traffic? Drive slowly and sneak a peak at your phone?

Somebody, somewhere is going to make money off this. And, it won’t be you or me.

Perhaps they have some kind of sensor either in the meter or in the asphalt under the parking space letting the system know the space is occupied or vacant.

The City of El Paso never overpromises. Just look at all the Quality of Life projects that have been completed. Yeh, right.

No cost to the city? Nothing is free. which means that some third-party will be tacking on additional fees for downtown parking.

If I am elected everyone in el paso will be able to park downtown for a fee!
