I was curios about how many traffic tickets the police department writes.
Failing to find the counts on the city web site I did find a list of fines for various offenses.
Some interesting ones:
- Animal not confined $95
- Possession of fireworks $174
- Watering on wrong day $145
- Watering on [sic] wrong time $120
Vehicle fines
- cell phone violation $114.10
- changing lanes–failure to signal $158.10
- cutting through property $143.10
- disregard barricade $143.10
- driving with bright lights $143.10
- following too closely $158.10
- jaywalking $65.00
- straddling lanes $158.10

All of the Dimes . . . are part of the total “Nickel and Dime us to Death” scheme the city has going on.

Think the “Dimes: are just to show how “serious” the city is about “Collecting fines”. But mostly they don’t. The “Political solution” is, that there are virtually NO Police working the streets of El Taxo, to do ANY “Stops” , write any tickets. The city has MILLIONS and MILLIONS$$$$ in UNPAID, just written off tickets. More than 300,000 people on the warrants lists. When is the first or last time any one has seen a vehicle with Mexican tags stopped by Police, Sheriff? Or U.S. Citizens driving around with Mexican tags, Colorado, Kansas, California, New Mexico, PAPER tags years old, FAKE “Dealer” tags made in Mexico. El Taxo, TAXPAYERS are BILLIONS$$$$ in debt that grows everyday. The ONLY “Solution” to everything is TAX INCREASES. And yet the POLITICIANS do absolutely NOTHING to collect the MILLIONS$$$$, hold anybody accountable. It’s just easier to do TAX INCREASES, where people have no say, no vote..

Since the State changed the Vehicle Plate/ registration laws, it makes it difficult and tricky to register a vehicle that is not working, or working incorrectly.
USED to be that you’d register your vehicle (and OWN it) . . . and THEN go get a Inspection-sticker.
But now, You have to get an Inspection FIRST, before you own the vehicle. Which means, that you may have to spend hundreds or thousands to get a car-vehicle fixed first BEFORE you own it, so you can pass the Texas State Inspection.
WHY would a person spend $100’s or $1000’s fixing a vehicle they do not own, or possibly could NEVER own, if it does not / or CAN NOT, pass the State Inspection?
If the vehicle needs this or that, you don’t KNOW that when you buy a car. Maybe you don’t have $1000’s laying around to replace that catalytic converter ?
So, the car sits without a Texas registration and plates,
And. . . is NOT owned by YOU, until . .. you get a Texas Inspection and THEN . . a registration and plates.
You cannot register the car without the Texas Inspection first.
So, . . at this point, no one owns the vehicle or . . . .
the previous owner is ACTUALLY still the owner.
So, if someone else STILL actually owns the car, WHY would you spend $1000’s fixing it up ?
The TITLE and ownership SHOULD be passed FIRST, so you actually OWN the car, THEN . . go get a Texas Inspection.
And that’s the way it used to work !

That little rant sure looks like a personal problem. Why the hell would anyone buy a car that lacks the safety inspection? That should be part of the purchase process! And, it certainly has nothing to do with the topic under discussion.

TOPIC UNDER DISCUSSION is City tickets and vehicle fines.
A car that cannot be titled and gets a ticket for out of state tags, or expired out of state tags, or no inspection, may get a ticket.
That’s what this discussion . . .is. . . . about.

If anyone is dense enough to purchase and pay for a vehicle that hasn’t had a recent inspection performed that’s sad. The solution is simple. Make sure yhe inspection paperwork is in the owner’s possession and is about 30 days old or less.

Here is a scenario. What if you want to buy a project car, a 1950’s classic, and put it on blocks in your garage while you slowly work on it over a period of a few years with your son? I guess the state (not necessarily the city) doesn’t want people grabbing up old cars. Too bad.

Because the car could be from another STATE, so it does not have and never had a Texas inspection.
So, that’s also basically, everyone that has MOVED to El Paso from another state.

The Electric Company makes money. Buying the Electric Company isn’t an expense, it’s an investment.

The Electric Company has over invested in infrastructure and now appears to be in a pump and dump investment banking-driven sale. If the City buys it, you can bet that the way the deal gets financed will ensure the Electric Company no longer makes a profit without taxpayer subsidies. We don’t need this. Children’s Hospital. UMC. EPWU….we are constantly subsidizing entities that should be running independently in the private sector. Yes, EPWU and the Children’s Hospital are independent entities, but both benefit from taxpayer subsidies in one form or another.

The airport makes money. The Public Service Board makes money. Even some City Departments make money. I guarantee you that if J.P. Morgan buys the Electric Company, they’ll make money. J.P. Morgan doesn’t care about El Paso. J.P. Morgan only cares about the money.

With so few police on the streets how many vehicle violation tickets are really issued? While driving you don’t have to look hard to see unticketed moving motor vehicle violations, not to mention bike riders ignoring stop signs’ and traffic lights.

He might be an old fart, but he is right on this point. Cyclists totally disregard stop signs and red lights and blow right through them. If you think that is small thing, hope you never hit one because you and your insurance company will end up paying.
