Besides the clinical language around the COVID-19 virus, that basically says we’re going to get sick and die, I am fascinated by the symbology of it all. New terms like “shelter in place” and “social isolation/distancing” have crept into our vocabulary. We initiate a “stay in Mexico” policy for migrants and next thing you know we’re being told to shelter in place.
Then there are the disturbing videos of COVID victims staggering and lurching in the streets of WuHan (like zombies?) and bodies being loaded into refrigerated trucks in NYC. The coronavirus itself comes from a bat. The bat is a symbol of the vampire, a complex that exists under the cover of darkness and that drains our life force as blood.
It seems we are trying to push away more than just a virus with the obsession to hoard TP and sanitizers. Can it be washed away? Hand washing itself has a symbology. The image of washing hands (Pontius Pilate; Lady Macbeth – “Out damned spot…”) is about denying personal responsibility.
Then there are the zombies – the Walking Dead – relentlessly and mindlessly in pursuit of new victims. Now we are our own unwitting (mindless) zombies who can infect others before we even know we are ill.
What will become of all this? What do you do with the fear of what you want to keep away?

I read the article in the El Paso Times with the county judge giving a we need everyone’s support to fight COVID-19. Then I recall how his son had a house party when he was back from school. I just wonder how much credibility we can put in our county and city government after issues such as this. Now I read that the city is starting to check on social spacing? What have they been doing up until this time? Worrying about how they are going to pay for the swimming pools, parks, and luring no account businesses into El Paso? We need new leadership in this county and city to correct things that Tommy G. has for his goal for this city.

How do we Americans respond to a virus? With firearms and toilet tissue, of course. ‘From my cold, dead hands is when l will allow you to pry away my Charmin.’ l looked it up and it’s even in The Constitution. Amendment 2.1 – The Right to Wipe. Now if you’ll excuse me, l haven’t eaten in almost three hours.

When 20%+ unemployment hits, El Paso will not be able to sell homes. Homes will be foreclosed on. Property values will be down. Property taxes will be down. Banks will be hesitant to loan when jobs are not secure. Hot Tax will be way down. No travelers, no conventions.
The City will not be able to make their highly mortgaged loans- payments.
So, I’ll just say it:”Told you so, told you so, told you so.”
The El Paso Times endorsed all City reckless spending.
City will have to take bankruptcy.

Mr. Moore should contemplate his role in helping all that spending to happen.

Foster, Hunt and friends should contemplate their role in all that spending as well as the loss of tax revenues attributable to tax breaks and subsidies awarded to their projects.
