Supervising pronouns

Our new EPISD school superintendent was on a local television news program the other day.

When asked one particular question he replied “… me and my leadership team are going through all of those questions… ”

Let me point out that I am not a grammarian before any of my intrepid readers do.

However I think that our educators have an additional responsibility to speak correctly because they are a model that the students observe.  I think that our teachers should use proper language when they speak in front of students.

I think that our superintendent should do the same.

We deserve better

Given Cabrera’s base salary of $285,000, he should be able to afford an English tutor. I bet he used improper grammar more than once during his job interviews, but the board of managers didn’t know the difference or didn’t care. Maybe both Cabrera and the Board think that it’s more important that a person be able to speak two languages poorly rather than speak one language well. I wonder if Cabrera could pass the TAKS tests that his high school students are required to take?

It’s grating to the ears to hear incorrect grammar on the local broadcast news, but God help us all when the (highly-paid) superintendent of schools can’t speak correctly. Sounds like a scene from the movie Idiocracy. I say bring back sentence diagraming in English – no wait, it’s called Language Arts now — classes.

Remember: It is not what he says but what he do.
