Evidently the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas hosted a seminar in El Paso the other day at the El Paso Independent School District central office.
They presented information about the Public Information Act and the Texas Open Meetings Act.
Unfortunately few of us knew about the event and so did not attend.
What would it have taken for EPISD to have notified the newspapers, television, and radio stations so that more of us would have known about the seminar? Maybe they did.
Unfortunately many local government employees consider anyone who makes a request under the Public Information Act to be the enemy.
We deserve better

Maybe the announcement was in the EPTimes…low readership 🙂

The El Paso Times was one of the participants (as a metter of fact, Bob Moore was sitting front and center at this meeting) as was other media. They knew about it because they were there. Don’t blame EPISD on this one. Ask yourself why the Times and all the media outlets did not advertise this event.
Open and transparent applies to everyone BUT the media in our city.

Thank you for the information. Then the Times did know about it.
Talk about a media partnership!

Am I the only one who sees the irony in this? A public meeting to discuss freedom of information and open meetings received little or no publicity. According to the link posted by Deputy Dawg, the event was co-sponsored by the EP Times. Just one article posted a day in advance? If the Times had promoted this event like they have promoted every little thing related to the ballpark and downtown redevelopment, the meeting would have been well attended.
