The Times wrote an article the other day that included this:
Jorge Artalejo, 52, a substitute teacher and gadfly at local government meetings took away enough of the votes cast in the race to force a runoff.
Gadfly?
Merriam-Webster online defines gadfly thusly:
one who is obnoxiously annoying
In whose opinion?
Is the Times now the judge of each of us?
Muckraker
Mr. Artalejo proudly exercises his freedom of speech and should be celebrated by the EPT for his display of the spirit of America!
Oh wait a minute…. he didn’t give them a $10M kickback…. LOSER! Why disrupt the political process by actually allowing taxpayers a choice on who they vote for?

The Times is bleeding subscribers, has little credibility since the stadium coup that it helped facilitate, and is desperate to do something that turns all that around. It is failing and hopefully will soon fold or be sold to an owner that can give us a local newspaper we can trust again.

Of course, the Merriam-Webster online dictionary gives no such definition. It actually says: “a person who stimulates or annoys especially by persistent criticism” http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gadfly
I wonder if there is an intransitive verb that means “to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive”? Why, indeed there is.

Have any of you actually heard him speak? His sentences go on into next week and make very little sense. I feel sorry for his students. I’ve tried talking to him in person. He doesn’t make eye contact and won’t carry on a conversation. For once, I agree with the Times.
