According to this picture’s caption in the El Paso Times our ball park will open May 12, 2014.
The caption says “This aerial shows the portion of the new Southwestern University Park that has had the field turf installed. With twenty-seven days until opening night work is continuing on the ballpark around the clock.”
The article was posted April 15, 2014.
it is hard to believe what I read in the Times.
We deserve better

At least they used the spell checker this time…or perhaps they are outsourcing their work to the award winning Burges journalism students.

Since the CITY owns tyhe ballpark HOW can a tenent SELL and rent out the naming of the building/ ballpark?
If I rent the Coronado Towers, I cant sell or rent out the name of the building and then rename it Wishbone Towers or Southwest University Towers.
The building/ballpark is NOT FOR SALE and is owned by the city.
So the CITY, if anyone, should have the rights to name the building.
Is the actual “Naming of the ballpark” really in the Lease to Mountainstar with exclusive rights to do so?

The El Paso Times once again cannot get its facts or its priorities straight.
In its lengthy front page story Sunday, it referred to April 28th as the Chihuahuas “home opener”. It failed to mention that the Chihuahuas have already played home games in Tucson. In its never-ending, zealous promotion of the new ballpark, where to park, and when to get there, little is written about the sport of baseball. Sunday’s front page story failed to even mention of the Chihuahuas’ current win/loss record (7-9).
Same with Bill Knight’s Sunday column, a puff piece on the glory and sanctity of stadiums, memories, yada, yada, yada. It was basically a rewrite of his March 30th dream-themed column.
Times articles read more like an advertising campaign for the stadium than baseball coverage. So, to borrow a line from a famous Wendy’s commercial, “Where’s the baseball?” We’re 17 games into the season after today and we’ll be 23 games into the season when the Chihuahuas arrive in El Paso.
Will the Times please get in the right game?
