The Tuesday June 16, 2014 city council meeting starts off with a slap in the face to the crazies.
Item one has our mayor proclaiming Bob Moore Day.
For the record I respect Mr. Moore and his right to an opinion. I also respect the right of the Times to openly advocate for or against issues without pretense of fairness if they do it based upon principle. If we don’t like what they are doing we can stop buying their newspaper.
I do not respect the way the Times has prostituted itself and become a propoganda machine for the faction that has taken away our right to control our own destiny.
And I in particular resent how the editor of the Times holds himself out as the protector of the people, the inquisitor of open records, the beacon of transparency–selectively–when the issue does not gore his employer’s ox.
Yes, Mr. Moore has done good things. And no, I should not begrudge him an honor.
In this case I have to wonder what is going on in the alleged minds of our local leaders.
Naming part of the ball park “City Hall Grill” was an offense to some of us. Some are suprised at not being able to find the Insights memorial urinal.
Haven’t we paid the Times enough by paying so much for their building? Are we now paying them more to obtain their continued collusion?
Now asking us to recognize a day named in honor of one of the facilitators of what has been happening is at the least insensitive if not insulting.
Then again someone once said “Only the mediocre are always at their best”.
We deserve better
Brutus
Alas, we probably will never see an Insights Science Museum Day…

There is a great opportunity lying on the table here for some bright young people looking for a job: start a competitive, independent and investigative newspaper. They will do their city a great work.

I have it from a good source that Diario wanted to do an English version but could not get enough interest. Carla Guevara seems to be the only one who report the doings of the council with accuracy
Hard to believe the lack of support?. They may need a personal call. Would any of our readers be interested?
Brutus, we need a pole.

C’mon, all the Diario would have to do is use a translation tool and post the English version of key stories online. That proves they either have no genuine interest in the English-speaking market or they are not as smart as you give them credit for being. For those of you who are craving Diario, just use the Google translation feature. It’s really not that difficult, unless of course you still prefer to kill trees.

Online Diario is limited. Also their El Paso coverage is limited right now. I would like to see Diario commit some of their journalists to covering more El Paso news. It could start as an El Paso English online edition subscription. I’d gladly pay. Then if there were enough interest they could go to a print edition. If this doesn’t happen, it might be worth brushing up on my Spanish reading skills.

Bal,
Use Google Chrome for your browser. Anytime you go to a foreign language site like Diario.mx while using Chrome, Chrome will ask you if you would like for the page to be translated. It is a low-key feature at the top of the page.
Check this out.

This just doesn’t fulfill your wish that they cover more El Paso stories.
P.S. – Yes, Chrome is free.
Salud!

You’re offended by the name of City Hall Grill? Really? Just like a middle school student who flips off people with another school’s name on their shirt? Why don’t you save your outrage for something that actually matters.

No rumor, El Diario stated there is not enough English readers to merit an English version. If you are seriously interested, call or send an email.
They don’t pull punches when they find wrong doing.
