Frustrating web page

Is it just my computers or are we all having horrible experiences when we try to access http://www.elpasotimes.com ?

The pages take forever to load, the screens jump around in the middle of my trying to navigate, and ultimately my entire machine is slowed to a crawl.

I seem to have fewer problems when I use the Chrome browser on this site instead of Internet Explorer.

If enough of you agree I think I will forward this post to the Times.

We deserve better

Most people do not have BRAND NEW COMPUTERS or the latest Smart Phone, but whomever is the webmaster at the El Paso Times is using code and programs that cater only to the “College Crowd” and people in government offices that buy new computers on a regular basis.
(at the cost of the taxpayer.)
They are after the Leftist folks, financed to the max, techno bunch that have no clue that: “You do not have to buy new technology EVERY time it comes out.”

Over HALF of the real world still uses Windows XP.
El Paso Times online is on a mission to sell ads to as many places as they can, so there are WAY too many ads loading up. Moving ads take more of your computer memory than still ads.
Even though the advertisers on the El Paso Times are PAYING for their ads, The El Paso Times wants to CHARGE YOU if you look at the ads too much. (See too many pages at the El Paso Times web site.)
10 years ago subscriptions to the El Paso Times newspaper, daily, was about 70,000 – 90,000 but now, its less than 30,000.
They have nothing to sell anymore so they are selling as many ads as possible on their web site (since they cant sell many newspapers any longer.)
AND. . . they are ticking off those that do look online with a limited amount of pages you can see before their POP UP comes up begging for a DOLLAR.
I dont know what a DOLLAR will buy there, but most just stop looking and those that PAID for ads. . . . . just loose out.
I guess, overall, not many people WANT what they are selling.
Looks like they are becoming irrelevant.
Selling their building to the City. . . . came just in time, as they have nothing to sell any more in the way of news and newspapers.
30,000 daily newspapers sold to a city of almost 1 million people?
(Actually there are more than 1 million people in El Paso as 20-30% are never counted.)
The El Paso Scene – Monthly, publishes MORE than 30,000 copies of it’s FREE PAPER, just to show how. . . .irrelevant the El Paso Times has become.
The most people that subscribe to the El Paso Times are either well-to-do or old and retired and dont really buy what the advertisers are selling. Renters almost never buy the El Paso Times.
The El Paso Times is SUPPOSE to be where you can find out things. Find out What to do, etc., but they have a limited amount of stuff (or dedicate only so much space to that in the Calendar Section, . . .. and it is VERY incomplete.)
They cover stories AFTER it happens. Photos of what happened several days ago. (So who cares at this point other that those who ARE actually IN the photos, and even then. . . they try and sell the photos to those people !) Rather than what IS coming up, in detail.
Most people get the National News from more current sources, web, tv, etc. So, the El Paso Times should focus on 90% El Paso Events, El Paso stories (that matter to most everyone).
El Paso Times = A complete amateur organization.

    • Homeowner, I think you are over-analyzing this situation – big time. First of all, there are very few print media in the U. S. that are targeting “Leftist” anything. As you should know, most media is owned and controlled by the rich, right wing, GOP crowd. As for the programming involved, yes, video takes more RAM to view, and yes, they do now want us to pay to visit their web site, but these things are not what is slowing things down. “They cover stories AFTER it happens.” ??!! Really?! Your poor use of syntax, or verb/subject mismatch aside, can you name any NEWS source in the world that is now, or ever has been, capable of predicting the future? What they hell do you think newspapers were invented to accomplish?!

For Brutus: Have you cleaned up your cookies and your cache lately? Do you use flash player (huge problems lately with Adobe’s flash player). The page is loading normally for me with Firefox, and I still ignore the ads.

Obviously the El Paso Times cannot have news in advance about “Accidents and Robberies” but they are told many days in advance by EVERY organization, that this and that is going on and they do not send reporters to get advance news. They don’t even call. Most of the time even the Rodeo, which is a big deal here, is not even in the Borderland Calendar section !
        THE RODEO.
        No gun shows posted.

They even skip posting many UTEP events and big sports events in the Calendar.
The purpose of a Calendar is for the paper reader to double check – – – to see if what they thought was going on . . . is still going on, BEFORE they leave the house.

And NOBODY cares about misspelling, syntax errors and grammar when typing fast on blogs. GET REAL.

        This is not grade school.

Yes, but the grammatical error of the day goes to KVIA-TV, who reported the following this morning:

“The vehicle left the scene, but was arrested following the incident, according to police.”

So, the police arrested the vehicle. Interesting.

I think it’s the ad’s and all the widgets they have loaded in their web page that is causing most of the issues. Many websites have forgotten the general rule of not making your website so media intensive that it takes too long to load. If so most folks won’t bother. The El Paso Times does have an app for the fun but it doesn’t pull up the articles they link on Facebook so you have to hunt for it manually so I stopped using it.

It’s the plague of the web site managers these days. They think the more junk they put on the better. Even news stations are trying to get advertisers to junk up their page as well. It would be nice if news site web pages were about the news.

Well I tried to send a link to this post and the comments to the Times. I went to their web site and clicked “Tools” and then “Contact Us”.

    My url changed to “http://www.elpasotimes.com/customerservice”

Eventually “File not found.” appeared on my screen.

If someone has a way of getting this to the Times I would appreciate their doing so.
